Background / History

Tornado was isolated by the frightening power she was born with. An elderly nun was once the only person she truly let into her heart; the nun's death reinforced Tornado's belief that connections with others were worthless and should be severed. 9

The Science Force brought her to Mary Geoise but could not identify the source of her abilities. Tornado understood that the World Government had placed her in the Cipher Pol Agent Academy to restrain the occasions when her power went berserk and to condition her into serving the government. 6 7

At the academy, Tornado was an unusually indulged but disruptive trainee, already capable of overpowering other students and ignoring instructors. Her resolve to protect and raise her younger sister, Blizzard, became her defining ambition. 4 7

Tornado first appears as a disruptive academy student who boasts about forcing children who called her short to lie on the ground. She quickly befriends Bred, helps him claim a prime classroom seat, and becomes one of his closest companions. 4 5 6

As Bred trains himself, Tornado begins to reveal her own fears: her power's unknown origin, the World Government's intentions toward her, and her desire to protect Blizzard. She supports Bred's dangerous Observation Haki training despite pretending not to care. 7 8 11

Nen Awakening and Separation

Tornado awakens life energy and Ten alongside Bred and Esdeath, astonishing the academy instructors. Her concern that Ten might prevent her from growing taller leads to a prolonged emotional outburst once she learns her height may remain unchanged. 16 17

When Minister Honest selects Bred and other prodigies for a special mission, the Science Force refuses to release Tornado. She remains at the academy and later undertakes a Cipher Pol internship. 19 51

Tornado eventually follows Bred's advice and trains seriously, with Minister Honest believing that she may one day grow powerful enough to defeat an otherwise nearly unstoppable opponent. 115
