Obsidian Martial Arts Hall, early morning, the sun just rising.
As players emerged from the burrows, ready to report to Lin Qi and settle their Martial Hall Points for the night, they were surprised to find Lin Qi wasn't in the lounge.
Instead, he was in a newly renovated training room, fiddling with something.
"Dojo Master, what are you making with this Mechanical Doll?"
Twilight of the Gods approached, a mix of curiosity and anticipation in his voice, hoping to trigger new plotlines or receive new quests from Lin Qi, the NPC.
The Mechanical Doll before them wasn't large, only about 1.8 meters tall, resembling a wooden post. Wires connected it to a generator in the lounge, its purpose completely unclear.
But since Lin Qi, the NPC, had created it, something new must be happening.
After adjusting the Mechanical Doll a few times, Lin Qi turned to the gathered crowd and pointed to the notice board on the training grounds.
"Starting today, for the future development of the Martial Hall, we will be opening some disciple training functions. There are also new regulations within the hall, and the Martial Hall Contribution system will be activated. If you don't understand, you can check over there."
Lin Qi could only resort to the ultimate weapon of major games – the Contribution system – for these overly independent players.
Otherwise, he had no idea when his martial hall would be repaired.
Notice One: New Martial Hall Regulations. No combat behavior is allowed within the Martial Hall, nor is any destruction of its buildings. Anyone found doing so will receive a warning and a penalty of 200 points for the first offense, confinement and a penalty of 2000 points for the second, and direct expulsion from the Martial Hall for the third.
Notice Two: Martial Hall Contribution is now active. Contribution is different from Martial Hall Points; it is a special currency that can only be obtained by completing specific tasks.
Notice Three: Skill Realm testing is now active. Head to Instructor Number One and spend Contribution to receive a guided test.
Instructor Number One, for the current players, was a powerful tool.
Lin Qi had been struggling with how to manage these battle-hungry individuals. They would attack the martial hall for no reason, and the repairs couldn't keep up with their destruction, yet they showed no enthusiasm for repairing it.
This Mechanical Doll was the perfect solution.
Didn't these players enjoy practicing skills they learned in other virtual games?
The current Mechanical Doll could analyze a player's Skill Realm and skill level through their practice, then compare it with data from a hundred years ago to derive an accurate score.
It was like a martial arts instructor grading a student's exam, even if the student created the exam themselves.
This way, when players used their self-created martial skills, they would have a general direction for improvement. Although not entirely accurate due to data limitations, it was sufficient for the current players.
The crowd gathered at the notice board erupted in excitement as they read the Martial Hall's latest announcements.
"Great! After so many days, we finally have a chance to test our skills."
"But what does this 'skill level' mentioned by Instructor Number One mean?"
"It probably refers to our combat ability. After all, physical fitness is one thing, and combat is another. It's just that this guidance is so expensive, ten Contribution points for one test. And the reward for completing the task of repairing a wall is only one Contribution."
"It's good that repair tasks give Contribution. Didn't you see that the underground exploration tasks don't even give any Contribution rewards?"
The players discussed the new game features, complaining about the scarcity of Contribution points. Now, to earn Contribution, they would have to undertake the tasks of repairing the martial hall.
"Sister Wu, do you think the Dojo Master suddenly issuing new regulations and activating Martial Hall Contribution means a new storyline is about to begin?" Twilight of the Gods asked excitedly, looking at Instructor Number One in the combat room.
"A new storyline?" Luo Wu Shang also carefully reread the new notice, and couldn't help but have her own thoughts. "What makes you think that?"
Repairing the martial hall was originally a main quest set by the game. The sudden increase in Martial Hall Contribution, with only repair tasks yielding Contribution points, was indeed a bit strange.
"Sister Wu, didn't we have a conflict with the White Feather Gang a while ago?" Twilight of the Gods said with a smile, lowering his voice. "Now that the Dojo Master has brought out Instructor Number One, and Instructor Number One is clearly meant to test our combat strength, do you think our martial hall is preparing to go to war with the White Feather Gang? Otherwise, why would they test our combat strength?"
"Indeed, we don't have any enemies to fight right now. Testing combat strength at this time should be the game preparing for the next main combat storyline," Fang Zhen nodded in strong agreement. "After all, this game is still in its beta testing phase. The opponents later on can't be set too strong, otherwise, we'll all finish the game. But they also can't be set too weak, or there's no challenge."
"So, by using Instructor Number One to test our current combat strength, they can arrange opponents for us later."
"There's actually a possibility. I visited game development companies before, and they always found a group of expert gamers for testing," Zhang Qingwei thought for a moment, looking at Lin Qi, who was still making final adjustments, with some anticipation. "It's normal for this game company to test with us. After all, the previous battles were too easy. The game company probably saw that, so they specifically created Instructor Number One to give us more challenges later."
"Holy crap! Are you guys monsters? You figured all this out?" One Leaf Floating Cloud was stunned listening to their conversation.
Originally, One Leaf Floating Cloud thought it was just a small update, but he didn't expect this game company to have so many hidden depths.
Fortunately, they also had many talented individuals on their side.
Through some small details, they had managed to grasp the game's future development.
"Since that's the case, let's make more preparations," Fang Zhen said with some anticipation. "Our last mission yielded quite a bit. The rewards for the next main combat mission probably won't be low either. If we perform well enough, maybe we'll finally get our hands on some new weapons."
"Main combat mission?" Outlander Gunslinger clenched his fists upon hearing this. "Last time I didn't get a chance to witness it firsthand. This time, I'll definitely fight to my heart's content!"
Lin Qi didn't hear any of these player discussions. Even if he had, he would have just thought these players were desperate for a fight.
He wasn't a demon; he simply wanted the players to repair the martial hall. He had no other intentions or thoughts.
Obsidian Martial Arts Hall, combat room.
"Finally adjusted!"
After spending nearly three hours, Lin Qi had finally completed all the adjustments for Instructor Number One.
"Who wants to try it first?"
Lin Qi asked, looking at the players who had each repaired dozens of walls, quite satisfied.
"Then I'll go first."
Luo Wu Shang stepped out from the crowd, the first to volunteer.
