Background / History

Xiao Wuji is an elder of the second-tier Spirit Creek Sect and belongs to its Eastern Branch, also called the East Gate. The branch was formerly the sect’s foremost branch and held six inheritances, but by Xiao Wuji’s time only half of its alchemical path remained. Its residence has deteriorated into a small courtyard with three thatched huts, and it has no separate inner sect. 25

While wandering in the mountains, Xiao Wuji encountered Su Hao shortly after the latter’s breakthrough to Qi Condensation Fourth Layer. He tested Su Hao’s body and recognized his exceptional aptitude, mature temperament, and potential as an alchemist. Su Hao refused his initial invitation, but Xiao Wuji resolved to recruit him anyway. 17

At the Wind City disciple selection, Xiao Wuji publicly protected Su Hao from Elder Zhang and declared him his disciple before Su Hao had accepted the arrangement. He ultimately accepted Su Hao’s conditions: Lin Yaoyao would be admitted alongside him, and Xiao Wuji would serve as the Su Family’s Supreme Elder to guarantee the family’s safety. 20 22

Su Hao formally acknowledged Xiao Wuji as his master while traveling to Spirit Creek Sect. Xiao Wuji brought Su Hao and Lin Yaoyao to the Eastern Branch aboard his Flame Sword Eagle. 24

Personality

Xiao Wuji is forceful, proud, and intensely drawn to exceptional talent. Once he identified Su Hao as a promising disciple, he repeatedly pressed him to join Spirit Creek Sect and openly threatened to “snatch” him away rather than let another faction recruit him. 17 22

He has little of the formal restraint expected of a major sect elder. He casually eats his disciples’ food, leaves them to manage the Eastern Branch on their own, and expects them to build their lives through self-reliance. Yet he also promises to support them if they defeat disciples from other branches and reacts with fury when Su Hao is sent to Snake Valley. 25 28 50
