Background / History

Xia Xiaojiu is a Spirit Creek Sect servant whose cultivation and talent greatly exceed the expectations associated with his position. When Su Hao first meets him in the wilderness, Xia identifies himself as a “genius servant” and is already at the sixth level of Qi Condensation, making Su Hao conclude that his circumstances are far from simple. 30

He later assists Su Hao after Lin Yaoyao is severely injured, identifying Danyangzi as the most likely person capable of treating him and caring for Lin while Su Hao seeks revenge. Xia applies fourth-grade spirit herbs to Lin Yaoyao’s wounds and recognizes the giant’s unusual self-healing constitution. 31 34

Xia’s cultivation of the Nine Nether Hand leaves his left palm badly decayed. Su Hao identifies the technique as incomplete and incorrectly cultivated, then gives Xia the complete method and a complementary cultivation art that can eliminate its harmful flaws. Despite his intimidating reputation, he is protective of those he considers allies. He shields Su Hao from Liu Dao’s coercive pressure, openly challenges the elder’s treatment of an East Gate disciple, and later gives Xiao Wuji a clear account of the events that led to Su Hao’s imprisonment in Snake Valley. 37 50

He is notably less composed around Meng Xianxian and her Dragon Mastiff, Big Black. Their familiar bickering repeatedly leaves him frustrated or injured, and he openly regards her as dangerous. 40 41
