The trials along that road had tempered his demon form and his own life origin, bringing about a profound, wondrous change. Ever since then, his demon form had quietly continued to grow in a peculiar state. It was slow, and even several years of changes were hardly noticeable, but it was as though some unknown switch had been flipped, bringing something into existence from nothing-a change beyond the spell's own transformations.
Now, as his heart beat, he sensed the difference in himself even more clearly. This was another kind of life-form, another kind of demon: a union of spell and self, another outward manifestation of his life origin.
