Ruger staggered along, glancing at the petite figure beside him, then at the gray-skirted girl behind them, whose embarrassment and fear could not conceal that trace of stubbornness.
For the sake of reaching greater heights—or rather, for the sake of their own goals—Wizards really could do anything.
Ruger shook his furry dog head.
He did not know what he would be like if he ever found himself in such a situation. He was rather curious, even a little excited, looking forward to seeing what choice he would make. Only when one truly reached that point could one understand those feelings, could one stir the true choice buried deep within one's heart—the answer that might differ from what Big Mouth had spat out.
"You seem very happy?"
Nana Erz asked curiously from beside him.
"If, as you suspect—I mean you, Miss Nana Erz," Ruger said with a smile, his voice low, "you too were once someone powerful, and became many people... no matter the purpose behind creating this situation, in the end, there may come a time when many independent people must merge back into one, or when only one person remains... would you be willing to become part of the plan? Perhaps you really could advance, or achieve certain goals and accomplish astonishing deeds."
The petite girl's expression did not change. In a crisp voice, she replied, "That is a good question, Lord Ruger. I too wish to see those astonishing things succeed. Every qualified Wizard hopes to witness miracles, to witness those world-shaking feats. Even sworn enemies may halt the spells in their hands just to see an unbelievable scene become reality. But I am me. I have considered this question four times already. No matter how powerful she once was,
