Ruger stared at the spot where Mahama's back had disappeared, wild thoughts running through a mind that looked demonic but was, in truth, still a kobold's.
He scratched his chin again. Since becoming a demon, his chin was no longer furry, and scratching it felt distinctly unsatisfying.
He memorized the locations of the two stone cottages chosen by the two-headed demon and Mahama, then wandered through this stone mountain city that had no business existing on the seven hundred and fifty-first layer of the Abyss. He soon noticed several interesting things, and no one stopped or interfered with him along the way.
First, there were fewer demons here than he had imagined-far fewer. This so-called central region seemed to be under some strange curse. The demons were also concentrated in the center of the city, meaning those he had seen upon arriving were already almost all of them. Only a few had remained inside their houses and failed to come out in time to welcome the succubus lord.
Moreover, the demons here seemed unusually fond of their little houses.

Ruger remembered those demons of exceedingly high standing who could chat and laugh with Wizards, even trade with them, call them friends, and wear formal attire. But clearly, none of those legendary beings could exist here. They were demons so exalted that even ordinary Abyss lords had to look up to them.
The demons here mainly showed their fondness for their little houses by rarely coming outside.
Yet they still behaved exactly like demons. They were not enjoying any sort of civilized life. Some did not even close their doors, and their houses were full of signs of damage.
