Communication and Rejection

Big Guy seemed to have mentioned earlier that they could leave immediately if they judged the situation dangerous.

Ruger looked at the genuine Abyss lord in the distance, with its staggering physique, then glanced at Big Guy Mahama beside him. By comparison, even this fellow looked small and adorable.

As for leaving, he certainly would not do so lightly. Besides, this lord probably had no attention to spare for little bugs like them yet.

Ruger frowned as he watched the Abyss lord continue roaring at the sky.

The creature simply would not stop. It hardly seemed to be venting its rage or announcing its arrival; instead, it looked as though it were conversing with this layer of the Abyss.

Yet supposedly, even those powerful, renowned Abyss lords lacked the ability to communicate directly with the will of the Abyss.

Ruger thought of what he had experienced and what he had sensed earlier. Perhaps no truly concrete exchange took place, but something similar did occur. For a demon, occupying two layers at once and becoming lord of both seemed to trigger a further transformation in an Abyss lord.

This was a real phenomenon, but there was a contradiction. Those powerful lords who occupied two or three layers of the Abyss had clearly grown stronger, yet few continued their conquests. Even certain Abyss lords whose names were known among Wizards, demons powerful enough to qualify to trade with Wizards, did not wage endless campaigns. This was highly unusual. Demons were born craving slaughter and power.

Watching the creature roar, Ruger suspected there was more to this than forcibly occupying a layer. It might also involve the elusive will of the Abyss.

As Ruger listened, the roars of that hideous, immensely imposing Abyss lord gradually began to take on a different quality.
