A strip of wrinkled bark creaked beneath his feet.

Ruger lowered his gaze and studied the fellow the Beast-Eared Witch held in her hand. He, too, wore a Wizard Robe. He had been the one crying for help earlier, and now he looked utterly drained. Even if the Beast-Eared Witch let go, he would probably collapse straight to the ground.

"My lord, I was saving them."

The Beast-Eared Witch looked up and spoke to him in the tree.

Ruger raised an eyebrow. She probably seldom encountered a long-haired Wizard outside that Association whose hair was so magnificent and blessed by spirituality.

Another person emerged from the other side of the tree, his steps unhurried and his body swaying slightly. When he stopped, he and the others had the Beast-Eared Witch surrounded from front and rear. He had never shown himself during the chase.

The Beast-Eared Witch glanced back, perfectly calm, seemingly unsurprised that there was another person.

Ruger's appearance seemed to have calmed everyone down.

Thud!

The Beast-Eared Witch tossed the man to the ground.

"I was saving you, not persecuting you. I hope you can calm down and recognize the difference. I admire the friendship between you," the Beast-Eared Witch said. "There was never any conflict between us. The people who died at the camp earlier-he killed them..."

Ruger blinked and swept his gaze over them from above.

The others clearly did not believe her. They even seemed to regard her as the murderous Villain.

Ruger glanced over them before his gaze finally settled on the Wizard sprawled on the ground. His hood still covered his head. He appeared to be a young-looking male Wizard, but with his head tilted and the hood hanging forward, only the lower half of his face was visible.
