Ruger instinctively held his breath. His Dragonkin body let him go without breathing for a long time; he had even competed with those fellows in the Bedroom Space.

He sensed the movements around him, merely calming his mind to sharpen his perception within limits rather than rashly extending his mental power. The sounds came and went, seemingly still some distance away.

He blinked. He had spotted someone fluffy.

It seemed to be a girl wearing a gray Wizard Robe, with a pair of animal ears on her head.

Ruger was curious, but he did not look closely, avoiding a direct stare. Wizards had keen senses, and there were plenty whose senses were sharper than his. Mona, for instance, was much more perceptive than he was.

But something seemed a little off.

The girl kept twisting and turning, apparently drawing closer to him. In fact, she was running straight toward the great tree he was hiding behind.

Behind the tree, Ruger kept his canine face stern, his brows drawing together into a knot.

Gradually, the footsteps stopped veering about, as though she had settled on a direction.

Ruger rolled his eyes and stopped being quite so cautious, slowly peeking out.

She was indeed fluffy, but only around the ears. Their tips poked halfway out of her thick hair, which was woven into a hefty braid that swung behind her as she ran.

Ruger raised his brows slightly. She really was running toward him, but the cries for help were not coming from her. They came from the person she carried in her hand.

There were figures chasing her, too. Amusingly, he could not immediately tell whether those pursuers were rescuers or persecutors.
