Background

Agatha served the previous Overmind as a Queen and later identified herself as his Guardian Queen, responsible for caring for hive larvae and eggs while performing guard duties. She was also a highly developed hero unit whose “research technologies” and life-support proteins differed markedly from those of an ordinary Queen. 3 11 47

When the new Overmind is transported to another universe, the heavily injured Agatha saves him from a lightning strike by taking both of them through a wormhole. She immediately recognizes him as her Overmind and becomes the sole surviving unit of his nascent Swarm. 1 4

Her injuries include major damage to her ovipositor and the rear portion of her head that generates Psionic Energy. Rather than await recovery, she accepts recycling by the Creep and requests that her nervous system be merged into it, allowing her to manage the expanding territory. 5
