[Huo Gu, is this plan of yours actually going to work? Why hasn't there been any effect yet?]
"Stop making noise. I need to concentrate."
The plan had gone very smoothly up to the point where sunlight was focused onto the root remains sealed in ice. But after that, an obstacle appeared.
They waited for a very long time, yet saw no sign of the ice melting at all.
Even though both of their thoughts were slowed now, they still felt that they had waited a very long time.
"The temperature still isn't enough. It's too far away, that star."
[So it failed, right?]
"No. There's still a way..."
As he spoke, Huo Gu focused his attention and cast it onto those root remains.
"Unwind, transcribe, replicate. Genetic target: photoreceptor cells."
The viewpoint stretched down to the microscopic. Photons departing from the star reached the planet's surface, then passed through a refracting mirror, changed direction, and entered the ice crystals encasing the root remains.
After countless tiny crystals refracted and deflected them, a small number of photons finally struck individual cells in the root system. That brought energy to the cells.
If they were ordinary, normal microbes, that little energy definitely would not have been enough to revive them. But cells possessing a collective consciousness like Huo Gu's were completely different.
Huo Gu could not make energy multiply out of thin air, but he could use the neural synapse network to gather the energy collected from every part of the root remains into one point, stimulating a single cell to awaken from hibernation.
This awakening was brief, but it was enough. Huo Gu calculated the timing precisely and issued a division command to the revived cell.
A new cell was born inside the root remains, amid the transparent ice crystals.
