Diverting Trouble Eastward

The Zerg Overmind was in a very bad mood. No, it should have been said that its mood was utterly awful.

Not long ago, one of the star systems the Zerg had been determined to retake could no longer be entered through Spirit Domain jumps. Although the Zerg could still use stargates to enter the system, that had become meaningless. It would have been nothing but sending themselves to their deaths.

For some unknown reason, the Spirit Domain could no longer be used within that star system. Zerg unable to use the Spirit Domain had no choice but to be slaughtered by the enemy.

In other words, the Zerg had completely lost the ability to counterattack and reclaim the fallen star system!

The Zerg Overmind recalled the entire course of that failure.

After the enemy's announcement urging surrender had ended, the Overmind had become wary. Under normal circumstances, it had rarely received enemy surrender offers. Why had the enemy chosen this particular moment to urge them to surrender?

The Overmind knew that the enemy had assembled a space military force in the Kuiper Belt. The area had been too vast and difficult to defend, allowing the Collectors to seize control of it.

Believing that the enemy massed there would launch a final assault against the Zerg, the Overmind changed its troop deployment and stationed more Leviathans within the star system.

That way, as long as it had a sufficiently formidable force as its foundation, it could respond to all changes by remaining unchanged, even if it had no idea what the enemy was plotting.
