Background / History

Old Witch Doctor was the eldest of the tribe's three witch doctors. After Blade Tusk passed the aptitude test, he became the boy's principal instructor while the two younger witch doctors handled the tribe's ongoing work. He introduced Blade Tusk to the courtyard archive, where inherited knowledge was preserved in fragile bark books containing pictures of magic beasts, magic cores, herbs, traps, and prey. 3

He taught Blade Tusk that witch doctor magic was useful but dangerous: casting with magic crystals consumed vitality, and generations of witch doctors had died after paying that price. He also explained that witch doctors naturally lived longer than warriors, though their extended lives did not prevent death through overuse of magic. 4

When Blade Tusk proposed replacing bark records with clay tablets, Old Witch Doctor supported the project and used the witch doctors' knowledge of local soils to identify suitable materials.
