Background / History

The first Sea God left the Heaven Dou Empire a national-protection trident as a final safeguard. Though not a true divine artifact, it contains Sea God power capable of suppressing martial souls, soul power, and soul skills; Emperor Xueye used it to kill Bone Douluo in a single strike 21.

The Sea God made the Xue family her representatives on land, tasking them with finding a suitable bearer for the Sea God's Heart and passing the token on. She also bestowed a strand of power to help the family endure, but the family repeatedly expended that power across the centuries 25.

The Sea God's power required nourishment from a Title Douluo to recover. As the Xue family's swan martial soul declined and it failed to produce another Title Douluo, its remaining divine power became nearly exhausted; Xueye used what remained before it dissipated completely 25.

After Yun Chen chose the Vast Sea Cosmic Shroud—identified as the Sea God's Heart—and activated it, the Sea God took notice of him. She observed his Golden-Haired Lion Mastiff martial soul, four-hundred-year first soul ring, natural domain, and external soul bone, ultimately judging him qualified to undertake her assessment 26.

Sea God's Heart

The Sea God's Heart is the Sea God's inheritance token, formerly kept as the Heaven Dou Empire's Vast Sea Cosmic Shroud. It responds to a chosen bearer and connects directly to their sea of consciousness 22 23.

• Yun Chen activated it by pouring in soul power, causing it to open his spiritual sea and render him unconscious from the backlash 23.
• It enhanced Yun Chen's mental power to the level of a Soul Ancestor and granted him access to an enormous spiritual sea 25.
• Its inherited techniques are Vast Sea Bodyguard Shroud, Cosmos Spirit-Calming Shroud, Vast Sea Raging Waves, and Cosmos Demonbreaker 25.
• The token's abilities remain limited by the wielder's soul power; Yun Chen's Rank Fourteen soul power could not sustain Vast Sea Bodyguard Shroud 25.

The trident held by the Xue family carries the Sea God's remaining divine power and serves as Heaven Dou's final safeguard 21 25.

The Sea God is portrayed as casual, amused by turmoil, and eager to leave the God Realm. Rather than worrying over Yun Chen's possible future conflict with another otherworldly soul, she looks forward to watching the outcome 26.

She is pragmatic in selecting an inheritor. Soul-ring age matters little to her because godhood can raise soul-ring ages; she primarily requires that a candidate possess sufficient talent to complete her assessment 26.
