Receiving Another Inheritance

Metal, wood, water, fire, earth!

At the core of the treasure tower, five innate spirit restrictions containing the laws of heaven and earth linked end to end, as though they had been naturally bred within the tower itself. That streak of five-colored spiritual light shot straight through the layers of rock above the cave abode and streaked toward the sky.

Ignoring the pain surging through his body, Yellow Dragon chased after the treasure tower radiating five-colored light and rushed out of the cave abode.

Above the Five Elements Grotto-Heaven, a streak of spiritual light was about to smash through the Five Elements grand formation covering the grotto-heaven. Yellow Dragon immediately controlled the formation, condensing layer upon layer of barriers before the treasure tower to stop it from charging outward.

Blocked by those successive barriers, the treasure tower's forward momentum plummeted. At last, it hovered beneath the grand formation. Before Yellow Dragon could reach it, a suction force capable of devouring all things spread from the tower, swallowing the surrounding innate spiritual qi.

In the blink of an eye, that suction force spread throughout the entire grotto-heaven. After devouring all the innate spiritual qi accumulated in the grotto-heaven over hundreds of years, it seemed poised to swallow even the spiritual qi and vitality within the spiritual roots and immortal herbs.

Without time to investigate closely, Yellow Dragon immediately activated the Five Elements grand formation with all his strength, drawing in innate spiritual qi from within a radius of ten thousand li and pouring it into the treasure tower. Only then did the spiritual treasure cease draining the spiritual qi from the many spiritual roots and immortal plants in the cave abode.

What pained Yellow Dragon was that a large portion of the ordinary innate spiritual herbs had turned into withered clumps of grass.

Several days later, the spiritual qi storm that had been madly converging here gradually subsided, and the light enveloping the spiritual treasure slowly withdrew.

A three-story treasure tower stood quietly in midair, roughly a foot tall, its entire body flowing with a warm, lustrous Five Elements radiance.

The tower was forged from several kinds of innate divine metal. Its five colors blended together and echoed one another, presenting a bearing both heavy and somewhat lively.

The treasure tower tore through the air and flew toward Yellow Dragon, circling around him as strands of affection flowed from within it.

Yellow Dragon sent a thread of his Primordial Spirit into the tower. Encountering no resistance whatsoever, he automatically imprinted his Primordial Spirit mark upon the treasure tower's origin.

Every function of the treasure tower now lay completely under Yellow Dragon's control.

"Since Five Elements spirit restrictions were inscribed during its forging, I'll call it the 'Five Elements Tower'!"

With a movement of his Primordial Spirit, a thin layer of flowing light enveloped the tower. As the light shifted, strands of innate spiritual qi were drawn into the treasure tower, while drops of Five Elements spiritual essence flew from its base and landed in Yellow Dragon's hand.

Under Yellow Dragon's control, the power of the Five Elements circulated in endless mutual generation. The treasure tower abruptly manifested a phantom a thousand zhang tall, its pressure boundless.

At a thought, five-colored brilliance unfolded layer by layer from the tower, forming a perfectly rounded shield. Yellow Dragon casually struck the shield with a stream of mana. The Five Elements flowed across the shield, completely blocking Yellow Dragon's attack outside it.

"Not bad. Even Golden Immortals would struggle to break it. If fully activated, it could even withstand Taiyi for a while."

Yellow Dragon was exceedingly satisfied with the Five Elements Tower's various functions.

"It can attack and protect the Dao. It truly possesses both offense and defense. To forge such a rare treasure among lower-grade spiritual treasures on my very first attempt..."

A figure suddenly appeared beside Yellow Dragon. With a casual beckon, the Five Elements Tower in Yellow Dragon's hand appeared in that person's palm, obediently spinning in circles.

When Yellow Dragon clearly saw the suddenly appearing Yuanshi, he immediately straightened himself and bowed respectfully. "Greetings, Master!"

Yuanshi looked at Yellow Dragon, his expression complicated. He had originally accepted this disciple merely out of consideration for Green Dragon, and incidentally to settle his karma with the Dragon Race.

Yet this disciple had now given him a surprise. With only the cultivation of a Golden Immortal, he had thoroughly comprehended the artifact-refining inheritance Yuanshi had left behind and had even successfully refined an acquired spiritual treasure.

Perhaps having such a disciple was not bad after all. A faint smile, rare upon Yuanshi's solemn face that had remained unchanged for ten thousand years, appeared at last.

Yellow Dragon stared so hard that he thought he was hallucinating. He hurriedly rubbed his eyes, then focused again—only to find that same solemn face.

Yuanshi tossed the spiritual treasure in his hand back to Yellow Dragon, ignoring the disciple who was questioning whether he had seen an illusion.

With a trace of majesty in his voice, he said, "Continue working hard. If there is anything you do not understand, you may come to Jade Pure Palace and seek your master at any time."

Hearing Yuanshi's words, Yellow Dragon restrained his excitement. He said to Yuanshi, "As you command. When the time comes, I hope Master will not disdain this disciple's stupidity or mind my disturbing your peaceful cultivation!"

Seeing Yellow Dragon's trembling body, Yuanshi shook his head, and his figure slowly faded away.

Once Yuanshi's figure had completely vanished, Yellow Dragon clenched his fists and shouted loudly, sending spiritual qi rippling through the entire Five Elements Grotto-Heaven.

Yellow Dragon had finally gained Yuanshi's recognition. He was no longer that dispensable, marginal disciple.

A moment later, Yellow Dragon regained his composure. After completely refining the Five Elements Tower, he placed it at the formation eye of the Five Elements grand formation within the grotto-heaven, allowing it to merge with the formation, inhale and exhale spiritual qi, and condense pure Five Elements essence.

Yellow Dragon stretched lazily, loosening his body.

Looking at the cave abode, ravaged by the Five Elements Tower until it resembled the aftermath of a great battle, as well as the spiritual roots and immortal plants that had lost their spiritual qi—especially the three treasures, Blood Red Dates, white lotus, and Dao Enlightenment Tea—

Yellow Dragon let out a long breath after inspecting them.

The Dao Enlightenment Tea and white lotus were all right. Their ranks were not low to begin with, and they could barely preserve their spiritual qi against the Five Elements Tower's indiscriminate devouring force.

The Blood Red Dates were comparatively miserable. More than half their spiritual qi had drained away, and the newly formed blood-red dates had become shriveled and dull, looking severely malnourished.

He summoned Ziling and had her lead the bee swarm in replanting the immortal herb and spiritual medicine seeds they had previously gathered. Once every spiritual field had been planted, Yellow Dragon cast spells to bring down sweet rain while clearing and guiding the earth qi.

Several months later, seeing that the immortal herbs and spiritual plants had regained their vitality, Yellow Dragon instructed Ziling to tend the cave abode well, then rode a cloud toward Three Purities Peak.

Yellow Dragon planned to first obtain Uncle-Master Tongtian's formation inheritance and Eldest Uncle-Master's alchemy inheritance. Whether he cultivated them later was another matter. Otherwise, once the Three Purities split apart, obtaining these two inheritances would become difficult!

Before the Upper Pure Palace, Yellow Dragon slowly descended from his cloud. Looking at the grand formation containing Uncle-Master Tongtian's formation inheritance, he placed a tea leaf in his mouth and stepped into the formation...!

After consecutively receiving the exclusive inheritances of two Saints, even Yellow Dragon, already a late-stage Golden Immortal and aided by Dao Enlightenment Tea, had exhausted his mind and spirit.

Having absorbed so much knowledge far beyond his own level, Yellow Dragon felt as if his mind were about to burst from being crammed full of it.

After bowing toward the Supreme Pure Palace, he mounted a cloud and drifted unsteadily back to his Daoist grounds.

Within the Jade Pure Palace, Yuanshi watched Yellow Dragon depart. He shook his head, then nodded again, uncertain whether he was somewhat disappointed in this slightly greedy disciple or approving of his actions.
