But at this moment...
He closed his eyes and felt the torrent of information deep in his mind. An unprecedented flame blazed in his eyes—the confidence of someone certain he would eventually break through every barrier.
Just one volume of the Divine Martial Battle Art had transformed every Saiyan on Divine Martial Battle Star!
This technique was the result of Barros combining the Muscle-Tendon Change Classic with the bone-forging chapter of the Nine Yin Manual, then adding his own insights from years of study. As for how effective it would be, even he couldn't say for certain.
The spaceship streaked across the vast starfield like a silver thread.
As it passed through the endless sea of stars, it left behind a faint, sharp aura.
BOOM!!
A thunderous rumble suddenly erupted, reverberating through the universe's eternal silence.
Inside the gravity chamber, the air churned.
Huff—huff—huff—!
Heavy panting, like the bellowing of bulls, echoed off the walls.
Bardock, Jiyande, and more than a dozen top Saiyans stood a few steps away from Barros, their clothes soaked with sweat and their chests heaving. They stared at Barros, who remained perfectly composed, exchanged a glance, and charged at him again without hesitation!
Barros's lips curved slightly. He stood motionless, letting them attack from every direction. His expression was calm, his clothes barely stirring, while Bardock and the others swung their fists with howling force, faces flushed red. The contrast between them was like night and day.
Barros leaned aside with ease, dodging Bardock's fierce, powerful straight punch. Then he spun and struck with his palm, sending a gust of force surging out and knocking Bardock several meters away.
In the same instant, Jiyande and another top Saiyan attacked from either side, their legs slashing down together like axes cleaving through a mountain. The sound of the air splitting was shrill and chilling.
Barros glanced at them, then suddenly drove off the ground. He moved so fast that only an afterimage remained, slipping behind them in an instant. His fists shot out like lightning—thud! thud! Jiyande and the other Saiyan were sent flying and slammed hard into the cabin wall.
Bardock and Jiyande had only just been knocked away when the other Saiyans rushed in. Without exception, they all suffered the same fate.
Thud! Thud! Thud! Thud!!
A series of heavy impacts rang out as more than a dozen figures were flung into the air almost at once, crashing into a tangled heap.
Barros held back carefully. Though his blows had left everyone unable to fight, not a single person had a broken bone or suffered serious internal injuries.
After all, they were only a little over a month away from Earth.
He didn't want to cripple them now, only to find himself short of manpower later and forced to handle all those tedious chores himself.
But just as Barros raised a hand to shut down the gravity chamber and end the training session—
Bardock staggered back to his feet. Clenching his jaw, he spat blood as he growled, "Emperor... I can still fight! Cough... Ultimate Destruction Bomb!"
A blazing white ball of energy quickly formed in his palm once more. Barros glanced at him, his gaze turning slightly grave.
The Ultimate Destruction Bomb itself wasn't worth a second look. What moved Barros was Bardock's tenacity—the kind that drove him to fight to the bitter end, as if he would never let go or admit defeat until he had drained every last bit of strength from his body.
Before Bardock had even finished speaking, the energy ball flashed bright white and hurtled toward Barros's chest with a piercing whistle.
Time flew by, and another half-month passed in the blink of an eye.
It had been nearly two months since Barros gave the memory injector to Bardock.
Over those two months, Bardock's previously sluggish battle power had begun to rise steadily;
The wildness and fighting spirit in his bones grew stronger by the day.
Barros rarely intervened, but Bardock challenged Jiyande and all the other Saiyans every single day, never slacking off.
He deliberately kept his battle power low, holding it around the same level as Jiyande and the others;
Yet even when outnumbered by more than ten opponents, including every top fighter such as Jiyande, he fought until he was completely exhausted every time. The battles ended in either a draw or mutual defeat.
As a result, Jiyande and the others were thoroughly fired up too, pushing themselves to the absolute limit—
Some even forced themselves to keep training under gravity at their personal limit until their skin split and blood soaked through their battle suits. Only then would they stumble out of the gravity chamber and rush to the healing pod.
This near-self-destructive madness brought astonishing results:
They repeatedly hammered their bodies in the gravity chamber, drawing out their potential and forcibly raising their battle power ceilings;
Even while lying in healing fluid, they kept practicing the Divine Martial Battle Art, never resting their minds or ceasing their cultivation.
In just sixty days, every top Saiyan accompanying them had broken through the 100,000 mark;
Jiyande had even neared 200,000, rising to third place on the Saiyan battle power rankings, behind only Barros's family and Bardock himself.
Bardock's progress, however, was even more astonishing.
With the Divine Martial Bone-Forging Art personally taught to him by Barros, he tempered his bones and sinews through countless real battles, reshaping his constitution;
In just two months, his battle power had skyrocketed to 328,000, leaving him only a hair's breadth behind Xuesaili.
Of course, as the spaceship drew closer and closer to Earth, Barros had ordered him to stop training. Otherwise, if Bardock kept up his suicidal pace for just one more week, he might well surpass the battle power Xuesaili had possessed when she left Divine Martial Battle Star.
Earth.
A blue world at the edge of the Milky Way.
It was also the lowest-ranked, most inconspicuous corner of a universe where strength decided everything and battle power determined one's standing!
Looking through the porthole at the familiar yet distant blue planet, Barros felt a brief flicker of disorientation.
He quickly suppressed the feeling.
He knew better than anyone: this Earth wasn't the Earth he remembered. Though its landscape was similar and it bore the same name, time and space had long since been turned upside down. It was not the blue homeworld he had set foot on before transmigrating.
Just then, a Saiyan piloting the spaceship hurried over, dropped to one knee, and bowed his head as he asked, "Emperor, we've reached the target star system. Shall we land immediately?"
Barros nodded. "Land."
As the spaceship plunged down like a meteor, Bardock's wife, Gine, clenched both fists. Her eyes grew moist, and her fingertips trembled—
Soon... soon she would see her second son.
Kakarot!
Bardock gazed at the blue planet drawing closer. Old memories flickered deep in his eyes, followed by a glimmer he couldn't quite put into words.
The Magic Fist... could it really reveal the future?
He suddenly looked up and glanced at Barros, who was standing not far ahead. He had long since dismissed the warning from the people of Planet Kanaron. His lips curled into an undisguised sneer.
Earth, the Lookout.
Old Piccolo, the current Kami, leaned on his cane, cold sweat soaking his forehead and clothes.
The spaceship hadn't even landed yet, but the pressure from beyond the heavens had already surged toward them like a tide—chilling to the bone, like the foul breath of an abyssal maw; its killing intent surged like an ocean piled high with billions of corpses.
Kami and Popo both went weak in the knees, nearly collapsing.
They had never encountered an aura this terrifying in their lives.
Even Demon Piccolo, once considered their greatest threat, seemed as tiny as a blade of grass—as insignificant as an ant—before this overwhelming pressure.
At the top of Korin Tower, beneath the Lookout, Korin stared up at the shadow drawing closer in the sky. His back prickled with fear, and his fingers trembled beyond his control.
What could have brought beings this malevolent, yet possessed of such overwhelming authority, to Earth all at once?
The next instant, Korin, Kami, and Popo all jolted as if struck by lightning—
The Dragon Balls!!
The only thing on this planet worthy of drawing such powerful beings here was the seven legendary Dragon Balls!
At the thought, beads of cold sweat rolled down Kami's forehead.
Though they had no proof yet, all three were already convinced: there was a very good chance this was all about the Dragon Balls.
Kami's heart sank. He regretted ever creating something as wondrous and dangerous as the Dragon Balls!
But Kami, Popo, and Korin were all thinking too narrowly. They underestimated Barros and vastly overestimated the value of Earth's Dragon Balls.
Earth's Dragon Balls had their uses, but compared to the originals on Planet Namek, they were worlds apart. Those were the true treasures capable of rewriting life and death, of turning the very course of events.
If the Namekian Dragon Balls were here, then Barros's purpose in coming would indeed have been what they suspected.
But Earth's Dragon Balls alone weren't worth him abandoning everything and traveling such a vast distance to reach the planet.
What he was truly after was the Senzu Bean, which could make the Saiyan race's strength soar explosively.
The Senzu Bean was said to heal all wounds and revive someone even if they had only a breath left. That was Barros's true objective on this journey.
Once he had the Senzu Beans, Barros was certain that within a few years, Divine Martial Battle Star would produce more than one Super Saiyan.
That would be the beginning of his reign over the universe, as he trampled countless starfields and stood unrivaled beneath the heavens.
Deep beneath Earth's boundless ocean.
A small, hundred-meter-wide island lay alone on the sea.
An old man wearing sunglasses and carrying a huge turtle shell on his back gazed up at the sky. A terrifying aura was tearing through the heavens and bearing down on him. Behind his sunglasses, two sharp glints flashed.
But in the next instant, his shoulders slumped. He let out a long sigh, and the sharp light in his eyes faded, leaving only a profound sense of helplessness.
He considered himself Earth's greatest martial artist, yet even the faintest of those auras made him feel as insignificant as dust.
The realization shook him to the core and filled him with despondency.
Master Roshi had no idea why these visitors from space had come, but one thing was clear to him—
Earth was facing a disaster unlike any it had ever known.
If the visitors meant them harm, Earth would be destroyed today.
And there was nothing he could do about it!
Whether Earth's inhabitants wanted them there or not, Barros and his group had already landed on a broad plain beside the sea.
The hatch swung open with a boom, and Barros led Bardock, Gine, Jiyande, and more than a dozen top Saiyans out of the ship.
The night sky was clear, with a full moon hanging high above. Its cool silver light spilled over the land.
Jiyande looked up and burst into loud laughter. "I never expected this trash planet to have a moon! It really is a blessed land for Saiyans!"
The other Saiyans nodded in agreement.
With the moon out, they wouldn't need to waste time creating an artificial light source to transform into Great Apes. They only had to look up, and their transformation would be complete in an instant.
It seemed this planet really was fit to be a battlefield for Saiyan warriors.
Just then, a top Saiyan behind Jiyande flipped open the Scouter over his left eye.
Beep—beep—beep!
He glanced at the numbers flashing on the screen. Every one of them was below five. He scoffed, switched off the Scouter, and called out to Bardock, "Bardock, if I remember right, this is where your son went on a mission, isn't it? How come the natives are still doing so well after more than three years?"
Bardock and Gine's expressions darkened at the same time.
It wasn't because of the man's taunting tone. They were ashamed that their second son, Kakarot, hadn't even managed to make a dent in this barren planet, where the strongest fighter had a battle power of less than 800.
Then the two of them shook their heads together and sighed, their irritation fading away.
Kakarot had been born with a battle power of only 2. Perhaps the natives of this planet had killed him just before he could transform into a Great Ape!
At the thought, Bardock's gaze turned icy, and killing intent began to pour uncontrollably from his body.
Barros knew at once why Bardock's killing intent had suddenly flared out of control.
Saiyans were cold and warlike, but that didn't mean they were truly indifferent to their own blood.
Idiots like Raditz were ultimately rare exceptions.
A moment later, Barros turned and gave Bardock a cold glance. "Bardock, close your eyes. Use the terrifying battle power that dwarfs every living thing on this planet to search carefully. See if there are any other Saiyan auras here!"
Bardock and the others hadn't yet learned how to accurately lock onto an individual's aura, but their senses had been utterly transformed by practicing the Divine Martial Battle Art.
With his astonishing battle power of nearly 330,000, sensing a fellow Saiyan on this tiny planet would be no challenge.
Bardock was taken aback, then immediately closed his eyes and concentrated, searching with all his might.
But before he could pick up Kakarot's aura—
A familiar, furious roar suddenly erupted from the distant horizon!
A Saiyan transforming into a Great Ape?
The thought had barely crossed their minds when everyone turned to Barros.
Son Goku? He had already transformed into a Great Ape? Wait...
In a flash, a scene came to Barros's mind. His entire body became a streak of white light as he shot toward the source of the roar!
He raced away, and Bardock and the others immediately took to the air, turning into more than a dozen brilliant streaks of light as they followed close behind.
As they flew, a hint of irrepressible joy rose in Bardock and Gine's eyes at the same time.
The only Saiyan on this planet was their second son, Kakarot. Since they had heard that unmistakable roar of a Great Ape, it meant their son was still alive!
Barros's speed was astonishing. With his formidable body and battle power, he was already hovering above the Great Ape rampaging through the forest almost before the roar had faded.
After transforming, its battle power was only 60.
Barros nearly attacked on the spot and erased this "disgraceful" Great Ape from existence.
By then, Bardock had also reached the air above the Great Ape, with Jiyande and the other top Saiyans arriving right behind him.
Everyone stared down at the rampaging Great Ape, but no one said a word.
A mere 60 battle power, and it was this weak even after transforming into a Great Ape? It was making Bardock—the strongest male Saiyan on Divine Martial Battle Star after Emperor Barros—look bad.
Soon, Gine, whose battle power was slightly lower, arrived as well.
Gine was delighted that her second son, Kakarot, was still alive. But the instant she saw that his battle power was still below 100 even after transforming into a Great Ape, embarrassment spread across her face, and the tips of her ears turned red.
As everyone wondered what to say, the Saiyan Great Ape below seemed to sense something. It abruptly turned its head, its blood-red eyes fixed on Barros and the others in midair.
ROAR—!!!
Before anyone could speak, the Great Ape threw back its head and roared. It opened its mouth and spat out a dazzling white blast of energy that shot skyward and slashed toward Barros and the others.
As the blast came straight at them, Bardock and Gine's faces burned with embarrassment, while the muscles at Jiyande and the others' temples twitched.
The energy blast was blindingly bright, but every one of them now had a battle power above 100,000. Even more than three years ago, this level of power would have been too pathetic to look at.
Gine flashed forward and blocked the energy blast. With a flick of her palm, she sent the beam slanting off into the distance.
She looked down at the increasingly frenzied Great Ape, disappointment and anxiety filling her eyes.
Gine knew perfectly well how much Barros relied on Bardock.
Divine Martial Battle Star was no longer the Planet Vegeta of old, and she understood better than anyone: if they could bring Kakarot back to Divine Martial Battle Star, Bardock could train him personally. Within a few years, the boy's battle power would surely catch up with, or even surpass, that of other low-class Saiyans his age.
