Background / History
Harry grew up with the Dursleys, who denied him ordinary birthday celebrations and gave him meager gifts such as a coat hanger and Vernon Dursley’s old socks. Entering the magical world shortly before his eleventh birthday exposes him to friendship, gifts, and public recognition for the first time. 9
Li Mu first identifies Harry beside Rubeus Hagrid at the Leaky Cauldron, then deliberately befriends him by presenting himself as a Shushan Taoist Academy exchange student. Harry responds positively because Li Mu treats him as a person rather than a spectacle. 3 4
During his Diagon Alley visit, Harry receives Hedwig from Hagrid, the Heart Protecting Armor from Li Mu, and a holly-and-phoenix-feather wand whose core comes from the same phoenix as Voldemort’s wand. Ollivander expects him to accomplish “earth-shattering things.” 9 11
At Hogwarts, Harry is sorted into Gryffindor and quickly becomes central to the friendship group formed with Li Mu, Ron Weasley, Hermione Granger, Neville Longbottom, and Hinata. 20 68
Appearance
Harry is a thin, black-haired boy with a pale face, his lightning-shaped forehead scar making him instantly recognizable throughout the wizarding world. Ollivander notes that Harry has his mother’s eyes. 3 11 13
- Black hair 3
- Lightning-shaped scar on his forehead 13
- Thin and slender build, particularly noticeable beside adult Quidditch players 71
- Resembles his mother through his eyes 9
Personality
Harry is uncomfortable with being treated as a celebrity. He struggles to connect himself to the public image of the “savior,” becomes tense when strangers focus on his scar, and repeatedly avoids unwanted attention. 13 26
Despite his initial timidity and limited social experience, he is compassionate and loyal. He immediately offers Ron a seat on the Hogwarts Express, becomes angry when Malfoy insults others, and remains determined to defend his friends. 14 35
He can also be impulsive. Harry readily pursues Malfoy into the air over Neville’s Memory Orb and later becomes convinced that the Philosopher’s Stone must be protected without waiting for adult intervention. Li Mu often serves as a counterbalance by questioning Harry’s assumptions. 35 68 118

Flying and Quidditch
Harry possesses exceptional natural flying talent and becomes Gryffindor’s first-year Seeker after Professor McGonagall makes an exception for him. 56 71

- Pursues Draco Malfoy in the air to recover Neville’s Memory Orb despite first-years being forbidden from flying independently. 35
- Wins Gryffindor’s match against Slytherin by using a dangerous feint inspired by a story Li Mu told him, then catching the Golden Snitch. 72 73
- His ability draws school-wide attention, though he dislikes the fame that follows. 26 56
