An Enemy Appears Suddenly

After Luo Bingyi arranged accommodation for Hong Mo, he happened to run into the special forces soldiers who had suddenly stormed into the research center. Without even the slightest chance to resist, the director was detained.

"Who are you? I'm the director of this research center." Although he had been detained, Luo Bingyi was not particularly angry. At his age, he had seen far too much. Since this group had barged into the research center so brazenly without alerting any of the security forces, it meant they possessed abilities he did not understand.

"We are directly under the National Superpower Special Security Department. From this moment on, this research center is under our control." An officer walked over and waved an identification badge in front of Luo Bingyi's eyes.

Of course Luo Bingyi knew of the National Superpower Special Security Department. It was a department established only four years ago. Ever since Mountain Orange University had been frozen over, superpowers had gradually entered the public eye. This Special Security Department had been created as a result.

But why had these people suddenly come to the Northern Institute Research Center? And even if they were from the Superpower Special Security Department, they had no authority to take over this research center, because this research center answered directly to the state.

"The Special Security Department? I never knew the Special Security Department had authority here."

"That is none of your concern. I'm informing you of a fact, not asking for your opinion," the man opposite him replied coldly.

Luo Bingyi pulled out his phone, intending to report the matter to his superiors, but the moment he took it out, a special forces soldier snatched it away.

"My apologies. It is being confiscated for the time being."

Luo Bingyi said nothing. He had lived for most of his life and had seen it all. At worst, he was merely being detained temporarily.

As he passed by the group, Luo Bingyi fixed his gaze on one of them. He had noticed the man because he stood out completely from the rest. Among the soldiers dressed in special forces uniforms, he alone wore a researcher's outfit.

Doctor Qin! Luo Bingyi remembered this man. He had been sent here by higher authorities, and while his precise identity was unclear, he was indeed highly talented and had helped overcome many difficult problems at the research center.

So that was it. Was this guy behind it all?

After organizing everything in his mind, Luo Bingyi roughly understood what had happened. Something had happened inside the research center; Doctor Qin had reported it, and then brought in these special forces soldiers.

And what else could have happened inside the research center? Naturally, it was the awakening of the experimental subject, Hong Mo.

Oh no, Meiyue just went to deliver clothes to Hong Mo. I don't know how these people intend to deal with the experimental subject. If Meiyue gets dragged into this, it'll be bad. Thinking of the consequences, Luo Bingyi's face turned pale with horror.

"How are you going to deal with the experimental subject? Please, don't hurt my daughter." Luo Bingyi struggled as he pleaded with the captain leading them.

Hearing Luo Bingyi's plea, the captain turned and gave him a long, deep look. Under Luo Bingyi's hopeful gaze, he suddenly smiled cruelly before driving a vicious punch into Luo Bingyi's stomach.

"What I do is not for you to understand." The captain leaned close to Luo Bingyi's ear and spoke calmly.

As a researcher, when had Luo Bingyi ever suffered such a heavy blow? The churning agony in his stomach made him feel as though he were about to vomit up his intestines. Yet even so, Luo Bingyi grabbed hold of the captain, whose face bore a scar.

"Please... don't hurt my daughter." At that moment, Luo Bingyi had completely cast aside his dignity. There was only a father's plea left.

"Take him away." Apparently irritated by Luo Bingyi's constant begging, the captain waved his hand and had him dragged off.

From beginning to end, the bespectacled and scholarly-looking Doctor Qin had not said a word. He merely watched coldly from the sidelines. Meanwhile, Hong Mo was changing clothes.

"Where is the target?" Once all the researchers had been driven away, the captain asked.

"The target is still in the special research center, together with this research center's deputy director."

"Move out immediately. No matter what methods are used, killing the target is the highest priority."

"Report, Captain. I have an idea." As the special forces soldiers prepared to act, one of them suddenly spoke up.

"Speak!"

"Captain, the target isn't an ordinary person, right? Our mission is to kill the target at any cost, so why not use a safer method?"

"Go on, Fox. Let's hear your idea." Apparently, the captain knew his subordinate fairly well.

"The target is with the deputy director, so they probably don't know we exist. Then they'll definitely head up to the first seven underground levels soon. Between the special research center and the upper seven levels is an elevator with a vertical height of one thousand meters. As long as we sabotage the elevator when they've ascended to a certain height and let it fall on its own, I believe the mission will practically be complete."

After hearing this, the captain walked over to Fox, looked at him, then patted him on the shoulder. "Very good. Not a bad idea."

The captain knew more about this mission. The target was a powerful superpowered individual. Even with heavy technological weapons, they could not say for certain that they would accomplish the objective. And even if they succeeded, many members of his team would likely die. If there was an easier method, he could not ask for anything better.

"Captain Han, are we really going to ignore what they're doing?" The security force directly under the research center gathered around Han Nian.

"They belong to the National Superpower Special Security Department. Their authority is frighteningly vast. These special forces soldiers are only their outermost personnel. We don't know what they intend to do, but we'd better not get involved." Han Nian exhaled a puff of smoke and explained casually.

Once everything was ready, Luo Meiyue and Hong Mo happened to step into the elevator.

A thousand meters might not sound like much. In reality, Mount Everest, the world's highest mountain, stood only 8,848 meters above sea level.

The elevator's ascent gradually slowed.

"We're almost there. Once your injuries recover, we'll begin researching you. I can barely hold myself back now." Luo Meiyue looked at Hong Mo with shining eyes.

Hong Mo truly could not stand her gaze. Speechless, he curled his lips and shifted slightly to the side.

After a faint click, the elevator stopped.

"We're here." Luo Meiyue pressed the elevator button. Yet the elevator doors did not open.

"Hm?" Luo Meiyue tilted her head in confusion.

"What's wrong?" Hong Mo asked.

"The elevator seems to be broken. It won't open." Luo Meiyue stretched out a finger and pressed the button several times forcefully.

"It won't open?" Hong Mo watched Luo Meiyue repeatedly press the button, but it clearly had no effect. After trying it himself a few times, he found it was indeed useless.

"I'll call my dad and ask what's going on. Wait a moment." Luo Meiyue apologized to Hong Mo as she took out a small, delicate phone.

Hong Mo did not say anything. Just as Luo Meiyue took out her phone, dialed the number, and raised it to her ear, Hong Mo suddenly felt the ground beneath his feet vanish.

Not good!

The thought flashed through his mind. Before Hong Mo could think any further, there was a sharp crack, and his body instantly lost all weight as he fell straight downward with the elevator.
