Background
Hong Mo was an ordinary student until he recovered a meteor fragment during a meteor shower and split it with Mu Siyu. Exposure gradually altered his body: his appetite sharply increased, and his physical strength became roughly five times greater than before. Fearing that disclosure would turn him into a research subject, he moved off campus and secretly documented the changes. 1
He and Mu Siyu eventually discovered that they possessed the two halves of the same meteor. They began living together to study the fragments’ effects, though their relationship was initially platonic. With both fragments together, their changes intensified; Mu Siyu awakened ice manipulation first, followed by Hong Mo’s electricity-based power. The fragments later vanished, but their abilities continued growing. 1
Hong Mo and Mu Siyu agreed not to join a government organization, fearing they would be treated as tools rather than citizens. After Mu Siyu’s public rampage drew attention to them, Hong Mo prepared to flee under assumed identities and accepted that further conflict was likely unavoidable. 3
Personality
Hong Mo is cautious, pragmatic, and highly survival-oriented. He avoids taking attacks head-on when evasion is possible, retreats when a fight becomes disadvantageous, and studies opponents’ powers to identify workable counters. 5 9 20
His pragmatism can become ruthlessness. He kills enemies when he believes it necessary, mutilates himself to remove persistent blue flames, and is willing to sacrifice his own limbs for decisive attacks. 19 20 43 He nevertheless retains personal boundaries: he spares Zhu Youqing despite initially intending to kill him, stating that he still has “a shred of conscience.” 36
Although he resists being controlled by the state, Hong Mo eventually accepts amnesty rather than endanger Hong Lingyin through continued conflict. He later considers improving his technical knowledge and combat methods after recognizing his weaknesses. 47 49
Abilities & Skills
Electromagnetism
Hong Mo generates and controls electric current through his body and superpower field. His body’s high metal content improves his conductivity, while his LV2 energy conversion allows him to replenish stored electricity through food. 5 27 38
- Has produced electrical output of up to 9,000 volts. 5
- Can sense nearby superpower fields and distinguish electromagnetic-type users. 7
- Can manipulate electricity through wiring to open passages and disable defensive systems. 34
- Can create an electric net capable of immobilizing and killing a Black Feather Condor. 36
- His field extends several hundred meters, though he usually attacks within one hundred meters because control weakens with distance. 38
- Using his superpower field requires corresponding physical motions, such as making a grabbing gesture to seize an object remotely. 38
Instant Activation
By circulating current through his body and forming electrical “wings” from his shoulder blades, Hong Mo achieves bursts of extreme speed.
- Lets him evade attacks and cross short distances too quickly for ordinary people—and often other espers—to follow. 5 19
- Can be expanded across his body for aggressive charges through dangerous attacks, including Zhu Yao’s blue flames. 19
- Its electrical discharge can affect nearby allies; Lingyin is hurt by residual current while riding on his back. 41
Electromagnetic Blade
Hong Mo forms high-frequency vibrating current along his hand to create a cutting weapon.
- The basic Electromagnetic Blade can cut alloy-like bodies, though sufficiently tough targets can resist it. 5
- The stronger Oscillating Electromagnetic Blade is intended for rapid kills and can bisect enemies or pierce heavily muscular bodies. 19 28
- He can condense lightning into smaller cutting blades to remove contaminated flesh. 19
- Its effectiveness is reduced by specialized protective equipment. 28
Railgun / Electromagnetic Cannon
Hong Mo electromagnetically accelerates conductive projectiles, most commonly coins, into high-speed shots.
- He carries coins in accessible pockets as ready ammunition. 7
- Any sufficiently hard conductive material can serve as ammunition; Mu Siyu’s cross-crystal earring performs better than ordinary metal. 13
- His electromagnetic cannon can tear off a reinforced car door and gouge a large section from a building. 41
Rapid Regeneration
Following his presumed death, Hong Mo develops a powerful regenerative ability capable of restoring catastrophic injuries.
- His destroyed left hand regrows completely. 21
- He can regenerate severe battle damage, including lost arms, after sufficient recovery time and food intake. 43 45
- Initially, uncontrolled regeneration distorts his body; he learns to remove excess tissue through forced necrosis and reconstruct a stable form. 32 33
Electromagnetic Communication
After stimulation with Azure Thunderbird serum, Hong Mo develops a private long-distance communication method with Hong Lingyin.
- He transmits thoughts as electromagnetic fluctuations through his superpower field. 32
- Lingyin receives those fluctuations as speech; the ability is known only to the two of them. 32
Combat Training
Hong Mo practices traditional martial arts and adapts techniques inspired by anime, novels, and films to his electromagnetic powers. 5
- Uses improvised techniques such as a vibrating iron-sand Tang sword and a self-destructive Chidori-like strike. 9 43
- Recognizes his weakness against skilled close-range fighters or opponents who can resist lightning and breach his defenses. 47
- High-technology weapons and coordinated special-forces tactics can overwhelm him despite his speed and power. 28
Equipment / Items
- Coins — His standard ammunition for railgun attacks; he keeps more than a dozen on his person before combat. 7
- Conductive materials — Can substitute hard metal or other conductive objects, including Mu Siyu’s cross-crystal earring, for railgun ammunition. 13
- New identification cards — Issued to Hong Mo and Lingyin as part of the state’s amnesty arrangement. 49
Relationships
- Mu Siyu — Co-recipient of the meteor fragments, longtime companion, and mother of Hong Lingyin. They initially live together to research their powers and later fight state agents side by side. 1 8 32
- Hong Lingyin — His daughter. Hong Mo trains her abilities, communicates with her secretly through electromagnetic waves, and repeatedly prioritizes her safety over his own ambitions. 32 33 49
- Luo Meiyue — Researcher who negotiates cooperation between Hong Mo and the Northern Institute Research Center. Their relationship is pragmatic and based on mutual usefulness. 21 22 27
- Mou Gang — A battle-mad alloy-bodied esper who challenges Hong Mo after seeing reports of Mu Siyu’s incident. Their fight begins as a clash but becomes an exchange of information between fellow ability users. 5
- Fu Xunhong — Former acquaintance and blood-controlling esper. Despite opposing positions during the state confrontation, Hong Mo still regards him as a friend. 9 11
- Mao Shaohui — State agent and major enemy connected to the plot against Hong Mo and Mu Siyu. Hong Mo nearly kills him during their battle and later agrees not to seek revenge as a condition of amnesty. 8 10 49
- Bai Cangye — Captain of the National Superpower Special Security Department’s Fourth Squad. He conveys the state’s amnesty offer and arranges Hong Mo’s teaching position. 49 50
Story Role / Major Arcs
- Meteor awakening and exposure — Hong Mo obtains a meteor fragment, awakens electromagnetism, and attempts to keep his existence hidden alongside Mu Siyu. Their exposure begins after her uncontrolled ice incident and Hong Mo’s battle with Mou Gang. 1 5 6
