Superpower LV Classification
Hong Mo kept feeling as though he had forgotten something, yet he could never recall what it was. Left with no choice, he could only put it aside for now. First, he needed to look up the information available online and see exactly how the world had changed over the past ten years.
He entered the internet café again and turned on two computers. To his surprise, as long as they had an ID card, even a little girl like Ling Yin was allowed to use the internet. It seemed an ID card was nothing more than a formality.
The Origin of Superpowers:
A long, narrow meteor belt from Andromeda approached Earth. Countless meteors fell across the globe. This mysterious meteor belt carried strange radiation. Humans and animals exposed to it for extended periods underwent physical changes and developed superpowers.
Among these meteors, the ones with the strongest radiation were meteor crystals known as Starfall Crystals. Basically, as long as a living creature obtained a Starfall Crystal, it was guaranteed to undergo a transformation and become either a superpowered individual or a mutated creature.
Those who became superpowered individuals or mutated creatures under the influence of Starfall Crystals were called "First Generation." These superpowered individuals and mutated creatures were more powerful than ordinary ones and possessed greater potential.
"Evolution Serum," extracted from the bodily fluids of the "First Generation," could give ordinary people a chance to awaken superpowers, but it was extremely dangerous...
Hmph!
Hong Mo snorted inwardly when he read that. It was far more than merely dangerous. Fewer than 5% of ordinary humans injected with Evolution Serum survived in the end. Most suffered bodily collapse and died due to the powerful genetic erosion caused by the serum.
Hong Mo understood this far more clearly from the research institute. Those were more confidential materials. Still, he should look into the Soul Space and LV classifications that had always concerned him.
Superpower LV Classification. At present, the international community had established an LV classification system for superpowers based on the degree of physical change in superpowered individuals. This LV level had no direct relation to a person's strength; it merely represented their degree of evolution.
LV1: Physical Changes.
Changes occurred in the genetic sequence, causing the body's demand for material elements to change. An ordinary human body contained 65% oxygen, 18% carbon, 10% hydrogen, 3% nitrogen, 2% calcium, 1% phosphorus, 0.35% potassium, 0.25% sulfur, 0.15% sodium, 0.15% chlorine, 0.05% magnesium...
For LV1 superpowered individuals, their material requirements changed, resulting in vastly different bodily compositions. Take Hong Mo, for example. The silver content in his body had reached roughly 1% to 1.4%, while other metals greatly exceeded normal levels as well. An ordinary person would have long since suffered metal poisoning, but Hong Mo was fine. On the contrary, the presence of these metals greatly increased his body's conductivity.
Within LV1, there were also direct attack types and support types.
Direct Attack Type:
Differences in bodily composition resulted in enormous changes to the body's endurance. Human-shaped beasts capable of withstanding missiles through sheer physical strength had already appeared in the world. Some powerful mutated creatures possessed even more unbelievably strong bodies.
These superpowered individuals generally had extremely robust physiques and astonishing speed. A few had even evolved biological alloy skin and skeletons.
At present, the highest-defense physical-type superpowered individual known in the world was Iraq's "Ali Saboya." After awakening his superpower, this guy ate everything. The metal content throughout his body had already reached 70%, and all of it was biological alloy beyond scientific analysis. He became famous after surviving a direct hit from a missile during a battle against the U.S. military.
Biological alloy?
Seeing this, Hong Mo seemed to recall something, and a wild, arrogant figure suddenly surfaced in his mind. Ten years ago, Mou Gang—the battle maniac.
That guy had to be this kind of physical-type superpowered individual.
Support Type:
Compared to direct attack types, support-type physical changes were relatively weaker, though they were still far stronger than ordinary people. Their bodies could make better use of the energy within them. This laid the foundation for LV2.
Hong Mo belonged to the support type. The metals in his body, such as gold and silver, improved his body's conductivity and enhanced his control over his own electric current. His physical condition was not bad either, though naturally it could not compare to freaks like Ali Saboya and Mou Gang.
LV2: Energy Conversion Changes.
After ordinary humans consumed food, it was converted into necessary biological energy to sustain the body. Beyond that, no matter how much you ate, you could forget about throwing fireballs or anything of the sort.
LV2 superpowered individuals were different. Their energy conversion had changed. Besides essential biological energy, because of the differences in their individual mutations, they could convert the energy in food into other forms of energy.
Hong Mo was like this. He could convert excess energy from food into bioelectric current and store it inside his body.
Quite a few LV2 superpowered individuals had appeared around the world, but the energy they converted had not yet gone beyond the scope of modern human science. It was generally electrical energy, thermal energy—advanced thermal energy could become flames—corrosive energy, light energy, cold energy, and so on.
It was said that someone in Japan had converted energy related to the most mysterious aspect of time, but that person had been kept hidden, so no one knew whether it was merely a rumor.
In addition, some superpowered individuals converted purely mechanical energy at LV2. Such superpowered individuals could become material-control superpowered individuals at LV3.
LV3: Superpower Field Awakening.
A superpower field was an energy field emitted with the superpowered individual at its center. Its shape was highly regular: a circle centered on the superpowered individual. Its exact size varied according to the degree of the individual's awakening.
On the surface, superpowered individuals could remotely control energy and matter. In truth, however, they still required a medium to control all of it, and that medium was the superpower field.
Hong Mo's superpower field was roughly a circle with a radius of several hundred meters. In other words, he could unleash his electric current within that range to attack. However, Hong Mo generally kept his attack range within one hundred meters. The farther the superpower field extended from his body, the weaker his control over energy and matter became.
The emergence of the superpower field greatly increased the attack range and flexibility of superpowered individuals. Unfortunately, the superpower field could not be activated directly and required physical movements.
For example, if Hong Mo wanted to use the "hand" of his superpower field to grab something, he had to make a grabbing motion with his actual hand, and the target also had to be within the range of his superpower field.
Furthermore, based on the superpowered individuals that had appeared so far, superpower fields also differed. They could be divided into self-energy control and external matter control.
Self-energy control was easy to understand. Hong Mo was an example—he could control his own electric current within the range of his superpower field.
External matter control used the superpower field as a medium to control objects.
Hong Mo opened another browser window and searched for videos of "external matter control." There were quite a few, though most were very simple, merely moving small objects.
Suddenly, Hong Mo spotted a video titled "Earth Empress" and clicked on it. The video was very short. A woman in a long black coat stood on shattered ground, while hundreds of enormous diamond-shaped boulders circled around her. With a gesture from the woman, they violently slammed into her opponent—a massive beast.
The rest of the video was filled with comments, nothing but a mess of meaningless nonsense. Most claimed it was merely movie special effects and absolutely not real.
However, Hong Mo thought of the little girl he had met ten years ago, Shasha. If that girl had survived, she should be this powerful by now, right? Thinking that, Hong Mo could even see quite a bit of Shasha in the video. Was it her? Hong Mo wondered, but no one could answer him.
LV4: Soul Space Awakening.
According to the theory proposed by superpower expert Zui Pangbeiske, all living beings possessed both a body and a soul. The body was composed of matter, while the soul was composed of energy.
Ordinary people could at most train their bodies. Superpowered individuals, however, could temper their souls through controlling energy. Once the soul had been tempered and grown sufficiently powerful, a spatial anchor point would emerge within the body.
A spatial anchor point was a subspace that could be controlled by a superpowered individual and used to store many things. In truth, it was much like the spatial rings found in cultivation and fantasy novels, except even more convenient.
The first person in the world to awaken a Soul Space: the Ice and Snow Empress, Mu Siyu. On September 13, 2014, the Ice and Snow Empress went berserk after being provoked, freezing everything within a five-kilometer radius around the university. Calculations afterward showed that freezing such a vast area required an utterly terrifying amount of water. Mu Siyu had definitely awakened a Soul Space and stored a huge quantity of fresh water inside it.
Mu Siyu! A Soul Space...
Hong Mo fell silent. That scene from back then felt as though it had happened only yesterday. Looking at Mu Siyu's photograph on the screen, she appeared gentle and alluring. Who could have known that this woman was the Ice and Snow Empress?
Ten years... Looking at that familiar yet unfamiliar face, Hong Mo realized he had nearly forgotten what Mu Siyu looked like.
Hong Mo sighed.
The most important function of a Soul Space was absolutely not portable storage like the spatial rings in fantasy cultivation novels. Its most important function was—nurturing!
Matter and souls absorbed into the Soul Space would nurture something in a peculiar manner...
LV5: Soul Armament Manifestation.
Once the things nurtured within the Soul Space had fully taken shape, they could be removed from the Soul Space and wield immense power. In essence, they were similar to magical treasures from novels.
Magical treasures?
There was very little information on LV4 and LV5. Clearly, very few espers had reached that level, and information related to them was highly confidential.
These were the superpower levels that had appeared in the world. Of course, superpower level could not be equated with combat strength.
For example, Ali Saboia from Iraq was merely an LV1 physical-type esper, yet probably very few people were confident they could defeat him.
