Background / History
Foundation in Three Rivers Prefecture
Ren Qing establishes Primordial Beginning Temple beside Fortune-Life Martial Hall, expanding into unused land beyond its courtyard wall. He identifies the Five Elements Immortal Art as essential to its development because it can support farming, pill refining, artifact forging, and talisman work 90.
During his subsequent seclusion, the Mouse Children fully repair the grounds. The temple gains white-stone paving, a trimmed bamboo grove, an immaculate main hall, and blue porcelain ritual vessels, although it initially has no immortal statue to worship 93. Its medicinal fields soon produce ginseng with potency generally exceeding five hundred years through regular watering with immortal blood 96.
Branch-Lineage Contest
Ren Qing’s unprecedented inheritance attracts attention within the Immortal Ascension Sect. Ling Weizi chooses to support the young temple partly because joining a branch lineage would provide access to inner-sect resources unavailable to her independently 108 113.
During Ren Qing’s advancement, the temple appears to suffer a complete die-off. The crisis is subsequently revealed to involve Heavenly Book Elder’s attempt to seize him through simulated reincarnations. The grounds take on the appearance of Green Mountain Psychiatric Hospital, reflecting imagery from Ren Qing’s former life 116 117 119 120.
Heavenly Dao’s Liver authorizes a new lineage and announces a contest for its offices. Rival cultivators attempt to exploit the situation, particularly by claiming Ren Shanshi as corpse-refining material. Ren Qing eventually overcomes Heavenly Book Elder’s assault and awakens; he discovers the four principal disciples’ corpses and all 2,500 Mouse Children within the Small Grotto-Heaven 117 118 121.
Ghost Quarter Reconstruction
After seizing the Ghost Quarter, Ren Qing purges its Buddhist influence and refines it into a new Primordial Beginning Temple. The completed complex includes cultivation workshops, shops, thousands of disciple residences, and a Fortune-Life Courtyard that replaces the old martial hall without its ordinary occupants noticing 127 129.
The seven Ghost Quarter Masters become permanently bound within the temple. Ren Qing later requires them to choose between service and the erasure of their consciousness. They submit, receive the name Seven Immortals of the Temple, and take responsibility for its secondary halls 129 133.
The defeat of Great Black Heaven Guanyin brings the lineage contest to its final appointments. Changes to the Three Pure Ones Seal then confirm the branch’s formation and the inner-disciple status of Ren Qing and his four principal disciples 134 135.
Relocation to Badu
Ren Qing prepares the temple for departure by transferring its Spirit Stone vein into the Small Grotto-Heaven. Most buildings travel inside the Scroll, while Frog Immortal Lord carries the main hall on his back. The temple secretly follows Ren Shanshi’s family convoy toward Badu 136 137.
In Badu’s Market Ward, Ren Qing re-establishes Fortune-Life Martial Hall and conceals Primordial Beginning Temple within it. The surrounding Rogue Cultivators experience the new buildings as though they had always been present 141.
The temple begins operating shops, and the Seven Immortals become True Disciples through a second enlightenment. Later, Ren Qing brings Moon-Gazing Tower into the grounds; Pang Su’s corpse inside spreads a dangerous hanging-Buddha influence, prompting evacuation and containment measures 143 144 148.
Organization
Leadership and Offices
| Position | Holder | Responsibilities |
|---|---|---|
| Master | Ren Qing | Directs the lineage, distributes inheritances, enlightens disciples, and controls the temple through the Imperial Court Scroll 122 133 144. |
| Chief Seat / First Seat | Frog Immortal Lord | Oversees the Daoist tradition and its affairs; also carries the main hall during travel 117 122 134 136. |
| Enforcer | Fish Immortal | Governs discipline and precepts; supplies Sword Qi in coordinated battles 117 122 130 134. |
| Transmitter of the Dao / Preacher | Mouse True Person | Oversees teaching, manages the Mouse Children, and handles much of the temple’s daily administration 111 117 122 134. |
| Ritual Officer | Sparrow Fairy | Manages ritual affairs and extracts Buddhist scriptures from captured Buddha Children 122 129. |
| Vajra Warrior | Ren Shanshi | Protects the lineage and directs martial training at Fortune-Life Martial Hall 117 122 136. |
| Secondary-hall custodians | Seven Immortals of the Temple | Manage workshops, stores, scriptures, and miscellaneous work; later help operate the pill shop 133 144. |
Disciples and Admission
- Mouse Children — A numerous workforce and combat force trained in cultivation, farming, alchemy, and artifact refinement. Their True Immortal advancement does not translate into exceptional individual strength 111 116 122.
- Ling Weizi — Accepted into the lineage through a Daoist robe placed around her Primordial Spirit. Contributes alchemy, artifact-refining knowledge, formulas, and battlefield leadership 122 130.
- Daoist Beisu and Jingfeng — Registered disciples who return during the lineage crisis rather than abandon the temple; later regularly refine pills and forge artifacts there 118 135.
- Li Yao — Uses the temple’s secluded cultivation facilities and is entrusted with its Market Ward shops 135 142.
- Half-Demons and Black Corpses — Martial disciples trained by Ren Shanshi. Enlightenment stabilizes their souls and improves intelligence, but does not remove their innate spiritual deficiencies 101.
- Membership distinction — Mortals given a rudimentary connection to the Imperial Court Scroll are not automatically official temple disciples 127.
Layout and Facilities
- Mountain gate and main hall — The rebuilt complex has a grand entrance and a lofty main hall, with bell and drum towers on either side 129.
- Cultivation workshops — Pill-refining rooms, artifact-forging chambers, and other secondary halls are arranged in ordered layers 129.
- Disciple residences — Several thousand residences occupy the rear mountain 129.
- Fortune-Life Courtyard — A one-to-one replica of Fortune-Life Martial Hall, designated for the Vajra Warriors 129.
- Medicinal fields — Cultivated by Mouse Children; early ginseng crops are nourished with immortal blood 96.
- Water supply — Otters divert an underground river, dig spring outlets throughout the temple, and tend wine bugs in water vats 96.
- Notice board — Displays information about the Buddha Embryo and planned sect missions outside the mountain gate 133.
- Market-facing shops — Six shops stand along the temple’s edge in Badu; four are subsequently prepared to serve Rogue Cultivators 142 143.
Seven Auxiliary Halls
| Hall | Function |
|---|---|
| Pill Hall | Pill refining |
| Artifact Hall | Magical-artifact refining |
| Talisman Hall | Spirit-talisman creation |
| Ritual Hall | Sacrificial rites |
| Medicine Hall | Herb storage |
| Treasury Hall | Spiritual-material storage |
| Scripture Hall | Preservation of texts |
Each hall is assigned to one of the Seven Immortals. After their second enlightenment, these halls become the seats of their Primordial Spirits 133 144.
Abilities & Functions
Imperial Court Scroll Integration
- Houses most of the temple within its Small Grotto-Heaven, allowing Ren Qing to withdraw and transport the complex 129.
- Conceals spiritual phenomena and leaking aura from outside observers 123 141.
- Makes alterations to the martial hall and temple surroundings seem natural to ordinary occupants 129 141.
- Creates a cultivation environment dense enough to foster spiritual plants, materials, and mineral veins 123.
- Limit: Ren Qing warns that permanent death could leave his disciples unable to sustain the surrounding Heaven-and-Earth energy 123.
Living Architecture
- The Seven Immortals can manifest faces in temple walls and furnish shops by causing shelves and counters to grow into place 143 144.
- Their forty-nine side halls function as incarnations; they report the ability to generate seven additional side-hall incarnations every seven days 144.
- Their strength increases as the temple grows 144.
- Limit: They require an appropriate cultivation inheritance before they can help establish large-scale formations 144.
Primordial Beginning Statue
- The main-hall statue develops a heartbeat, breathing motion, and bodily vitality after the temple’s second enlightenment 144.
- Serves as a potential spare body through which Ren Qing can reconstruct his body and soul if disaster strikes elsewhere 144.
Collective Combat
- The Mouse Children transform into Five-Element Pearls to form a coordinated battle formation, with Mouse True Person acting as its core 130.
- Ling Weizi commands the formation while the principal disciples provide attacks such as Fish Immortal’s Sword Qi 130 134.
- Limits: The formation can collapse from exhaustion. Ren Qing estimates five thousand Mouse Children as its maximum effective scale before coordination flaws become a problem 131 134.
Resources and Commerce
Spirit Stones
- Mouse True Person initially produces one low-grade Spirit Stone every ten days through the Five Elements Immortal Art 93.
- Holding one increases his Five Elements Immortal Art’s power by thirty percent; powdered stones can assist pill refining, artifact forging, and talisman crafting 93.
- Temple production later stabilizes at roughly one hundred stones per day 124.
- Used stones absorb impurities and their users’ cultivation aura. Ren Qing extracts this polluted energy into the Imperial Court Scroll for his own cultivation 124.
Pill Shops and Cultivation Teachings
- Ren Qing orders consistently high-quality pills rather than lowering quality to avoid powerful buyers. Every ten pills come with a low-grade Spirit Stone 143.
- An unnamed manual teaches Spirit Stone use and leads practitioners toward Ren Qing’s enlightenment, presenting the resulting protective Daoist robe as a cultivated spell 143.
- Ren Qing plans to worsen the Spirit Stone exchange rate gradually, increasing the temple’s control over access and value 143.
- The Seven Immortals take over Blessed Life Pill Shop, allowing Li Yao to prepare the remaining businesses and continue cultivating 144.
- Customers genuinely benefit from cleaner spiritual energy and the removal of turbid qi, but report discomfort without the stones—a dependency recognized by the Seven Immortals 144.
Crafted Artifacts
- Gold-Devouring Insect — An earth-element beetle used for excavation and earth-element techniques 137.
- One-Flame True Fire — A blue-green flame made from remnants of Ren Qing’s Fire Dissolution; reproduces when supplied with fire-element aura 137.
- Refinement limit — The Five-Element Mouse Children’s artifacts may become magical treasures because of contact with Ren Qing’s bodily materials, but the temple’s existing Immortal Ascension Sect inheritance cannot accomplish that advancement 137.
Doctrine and Conduct
- Ren Qing insists that Primordial Beginning Temple is a righteous Daoist sect and instructs Mouse True Person not to pursue quick success through crooked methods 111.
- New True Disciples are required to observe the rule of nonaction 144.
- Ren Qing warns against killing innocents because of karmic consequences, correcting Mouse True Person after the destruction of local Demon Cultivator clans 129.
- Buddhist inheritances are studied and reworked, but Ren Qing resists adopting them wholesale at the expense of the temple’s Daoist identity 129.
- Its combat practice emphasizes coordinated formations and overwhelming force against evil beings; Ren Qing treats such battles as practical tests for his disciples 130.
Notable Incidents
- Green Mountain Psychiatric Hospital transformation — During Heavenly Book Elder’s assault, the temple becomes square and boxlike, bearing a hospital plaque and producing a bell resembling one from Ren Qing’s previous life 119 120.
- Ghost Quarter Masters incorporated — The seven former masters lose the ability to transfer their Primordial Spirits away from the rebuilt temple, later entering service as its Seven Immortals 129 133.
- Moon-Gazing Tower containment — Pang Su’s hanging-Buddha corpse affects nearby necks and spreads dangerous chanting. Ren Qing evacuates the Mouse Children, while the Seven Immortals build stone walls around the tower 148.
- Khatvanga refinement — Rather than discard the corpse, Ren Qing begins refining it into a Buddhist ritual staff. Frog Immortal Lord swallows the tower to act as a furnace, while Mouse True Person gathers bones for the process 148.
