The living room.
Natsume Chikage sat down beside his sister and Kaga Resaki, who were watching TV.
He wanted to see what their futures held.
Would they get into good schools? What would their lives be like after that?
He turned to Natsume Ruri first. "Ruri, can you give your big brother your hand?"
Natsume Ruri blinked, then held out her hand. "What's wrong? Why do you suddenly want me to do that?"
Chikage made up an excuse.
"I'll show you a magic trick."
Ruri puffed out her cheeks.
"What kind of trick? You're not planning to use it to pick up girls, are you?"
"That would be so sleazy. I won't allow it!"
Chikage gave a helpless laugh. "Of course not."
"If I wanted a girlfriend, I'd have found one ages ago. Why would I need tricks like that?"
Ruri blinked.
"I guess that's true."
Resaki agreed. "It is."
Then Chikage took Ruri's hand and tried channeling his Divine Power to see her future.
As he did, he worried that she might be able to see his Divine Power.
But she showed no particular reaction, and he relaxed a little.
His Divine Power drained rapidly. Even when he was nearly empty, no vision of the future appeared.
Chikage frowned. He hadn't expected to spend so much and still see nothing.
Ruri's cheeks reddened slightly.
"Are you done yet, big brother? What's taking so long?"
Still holding her hand, Chikage mumbled, "Ahem—just wait. I'm figuring out how to do the trick."
Then, just as dizziness set in and his Divine Power was about to run dry—
