Ling Zhuo was one of the Spirit Clan's most heavily cultivated younger-generation talents. Ling Haonan stated that the declining clan had poured its efforts into nurturing Ling Zhuo, while Ling He—his great-grandmother—personally supported his rise and sought to restore the clan's dignity through him 503.

At a Holy Pill City trading fair, Ling Zhuo purchased the Source Spirit Pattern Crystal and an ancient cauldron. He then sent the cauldron, along with a cup of wine, to Xiao Yan as a deliberately provocative gift; this began their open rivalry 364.

As the Spirit Clan expanded its influence in Holy Pill City, Ling Zhuo became its public face and effective authority. He pressured major families to become Spirit Clan vassals and openly treated the Cao Clan and Dan Clan as targets of plans prepared decades in advance 422. He is also calculating and ruthless. Ling Zhuo used Yao Qingyu as bait to draw Xiao Yan into a trap, exploited his knowledge of the Pill Realm to monopolize resources, and used the Source Spirit Pattern Crystal to drain captured cultivators of their life essence 541 565 497.
