Chapter 729: Truth
Hogwarts, Great Hall.
"Can you tell us now?" Mad-Eye Moody brought Silvan over to the professors and Order of the Phoenix members. "What happened in Godric's Hollow before we arrived?"
"Professor Dumbledore was helping me," Silvan said. "We had arranged it beforehand. I wanted to—"
Silvan paused instinctively, unsure whether he should reveal the secret of the Horcruxes here—after all, Dumbledore had never done so.
Perhaps it had been to make Voldemort lower his guard, or perhaps he feared that the temptation of immortality was too great and someone might stray down the wrong path—
In any case, before he was killed, aside from a very small number of people, most members of the Order of the Phoenix had not known that Voldemort had made Horcruxes.
So, should he say it now?
Just as Silvan was struggling with the decision, Mad-Eye Moody suddenly spoke.
"We already know that," he said rapidly. "You were planning to try provoking Voldemort, forcing him to show himself, and he told us to be ready to support you at any time."
Among the crowd, several Order members nodded unconsciously, confirming that it was true. They had received similar messages as well.
"Now it seems your plan worked. Voldemort really did go after you," Mad-Eye Moody continued. "But what we want to know more is how Voldemort managed to kill Dumbledore. Before this, he had never beaten him."
"Because of—a curse." Silvan's gaze dropped slightly from Mad-Eye Moody, passing over his sleeve before landing on the stone platform where Dumbledore lay.
"A curse?"
"How is that possible—"
"What curse could kill Dumbledore?"
"It's true, and many of you know about it," Silvan said, his tone growing much smoother.
