Background

Born into the pure-blood Black family, Sirius was sorted into Gryffindor despite his relatives’ expectations. After running away from home, he lived with James Potter’s family, whom he regarded as his happiest home; his mother later burned his name from the Black family tapestry. 391 524

At Hogwarts, Sirius became James Potter, Remus Lupin, and Peter Pettigrew’s friend. The four created the Marauder’s Map, and Sirius became the illegal Animagus known as Padfoot: a large black dog. 120 204 255

Disguised as a dog, Sirius survives around Hogwarts and follows Crookshanks in hopes of entering the castle to kill Peter Pettigrew. He encounters Silvan and Tom, temporarily submits to Tom for food and access, and learns that Silvan is also an Animagus. 187 204

Sirius later breaks into Hogwarts and attacks the Fat Lady’s portrait while trying to reach Gryffindor Tower. Silvan confronts him, petrifies him with Snake Eye, and hides his dog-form body in a Mokeskin Pouch. 190

Alliance with Silvan and Lupin

After being revived from Dementor petrification, Sirius distrusts Silvan’s offer of help until Silvan reveals knowledge of Padfoot, the Marauder’s Map, and Lupin’s identity. Sirius agrees to provide access to the Black family home in exchange for help. 202
