This was probably the quietest night in Hogwarts history.

It was clearly the first day of term, and after nearly two months apart, everyone should have had plenty to talk about. Yet the common room was so quiet that not a sound could be heard.

Seamus and Dean had wanted to share news about Harry Potter with everyone, but that had clearly been explicitly forbidden.

Their new Defense Against the Dark Arts professor had decreed that anyone who mentioned Harry Potter's name, for any reason, would be thrown into the dungeons and given the harshest punishment.

Yes, Hogwarts's dungeons had been put back into use, along with the iron chains Filch had carefully maintained all these years.

But the first person to be subjected to them was Filch himself. Alecto Carrow had strung him up in the dungeons for an entire night, for no reason at all.

The night before, after having a furious argument with McGonagall, Alecto Carrow had wanted someone to vent her anger on. Filch had conveniently stepped forward and suggested reopening the dungeons to lock up all those who opposed her.

Filch had probably meant to curry favor with Alecto Carrow, just as he had once done with Umbridge.

As long as they did not want to spend every day catching students around the castle themselves, he was useful. Besides, he loved the job and had extensive experience; he was not easily replaced.

All that could be said was that Filch's idea had been good, but it did not work on everyone.

Perhaps Umbridge had fallen for that sort of thing, but Alecto Carrow was different: a mad Death Eater who already loathed Mudbloods and Squibs to the extreme.

So Filch suffered for it, becoming the first person Carrow sent into
