Chapter 788: Escape
Harry had thought Voldemort hadn't set up any Dark magic at Riddle Manor because, like a Gringotts vault, it would be difficult for anyone to break into.
But he was wrong again.
Hermione opened the front door with nothing more than the simplest Alohomora.
Since no one had lived there for a long time, the creak of the opening door was especially piercing in the early hours of the morning.
Fortunately, this was the only house around, so they didn't have to worry about Muggles hearing the noise and coming to investigate.
The moment the door opened, a nauseating, pungent stench poured out, like rotting animal carcasses mixed with mildew, rushing straight at them.
Hermione quickly pulled out her wand and waved it three times. A transparent bubble immediately formed over each of their heads.
"Ugh—thanks, Hermione—the Bubble-Head Charm is the greatest invention ever—" Ron said, covering his mouth. He had nearly thrown up the instant the door opened.
Hermione did not respond. She was tensely watching their surroundings.
The house was pitch-black, with only scattered moonlight filtering through the filthy windows.
"That smell clearly means no one has come in here for a long time. Maybe you really saw it wrong," Ron continued, beginning to lose his nerve.
"No, I have a feeling it's here." Harry narrowed his eyes and took the lead inside.
"Oh, another feeling—but you're clearly awake this time." Ron curled his lip, unable to understand what Harry meant.
