"Once the disciples of my Nine Star Kui Island arrive, all of you will die!"
Huangfu Ziyang gritted his teeth, wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth, and shouted sharply.
Spiritual light erupted from the boots on his feet, and the power of thunder within his spiritual pulses surged. He did not force a life-or-death struggle; he wanted to leave, and no one could stop him.
Being forced into a wretched retreat by a group of rogue cultivators was a blow to his pride, but it was still better than dying here.
Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!
Xu Yan's flying sword missed its mark. With thunder coiling around his feet, Huangfu Ziyang flew ten zhang away in the blink of an eye, his speed as swift as a lightning strike.
I cannot remain entangled with this person for too long, Xu Yan thought.
The other disciples of Nine Star Kui Island were already on their way. If he dragged this out too long, Xu Yan and his companions would be the ones forced to flee once reinforcements arrived.
"Fellow Daoist Xu, this man's escape speed is too great. Why don't we stop chasing and use the Teleportation Array to leave this place instead!"
The rogue cultivators shared this sentiment. After the intense battle, everyone's mana was severely depleted, and they had all sustained varying degrees of injury.
As they spoke, a rumbling sound echoed from the distance.
That was where Murong Yan and the three demon cultivators had been fighting. Dust rose into the air, and the sound of ghosts wailing and wolves howling blotted out the sky, causing everyone's hearts to tremble.
A few breaths later, Tushan Jing, covered in blood, came fleeing in their direction alongside a Kui Ox. The Kui Ox was also heavily wounded, its eyes filled with intense ferocity.
As for the other Kui Ox, it had clearly already perished.
The two demons were about to collide head-on with Huangfu Ziyang, who was fleeing in a disheveled state, his black hair wild and thunder crackling beneath his feet.
Tushan Jing's pupils constricted. Without a word, he launched a fierce attack!
The power of his bloodline erupted once more, reaching the point of burning his very essence. His sharp fox claws tore through the air, striking head-on.
Huangfu Ziyang was shocked. This demon's divine ability was even more powerful than Xu Yan's Primordial Chaos Palm from earlier, and it was faster.
After unleashing this move, Tushan Jing's face turned pale.
At the critical moment, Huangfu Ziyang's mystic treasure robe emitted a dazzling golden light once more, and a barrier enveloped him.
Although mystic treasures possessed great power, they all had limits on their usage. For instance, Xu Yan's Furnace-Splitting Hammer would shatter after being used at most five times.
Boom!
The fox claws struck down. The golden barrier held for only two breaths before shattering into dissipating ripples. The tyrannical mana followed immediately, forcibly destroying the mystic treasure!
Having been triggered repeatedly, the robe had reached its limit.
"Urgh!"
Huangfu Ziyang screamed in agony, struck by terror.
He felt a terrifying, sharp force pierce his chest. His robes were shredded, and five bloody gashes appeared across his chest, deep enough to expose bone and sinew. Blood flowed freely.
Had it not been for the mystic robe and his sixth-level Pulse Opening physique, he would have been gutted right then and there!
Huangfu Ziyang's face turned deathly pale. He bit his lip, sacrificed his essence blood, and channeled his escape technique to drive his boots, fleeing frantically into the distance.
His speed was immense!
Tushan Jing prepared to give chase, but Xu Yan immediately called out to him.
"Fellow Daoist Tushan, do not pursue a desperate foe!"
Hearing the shout, the two demons quickly calmed down and stopped. Even if they pursued, they would not be able to catch him.
That young master had slipped away too quickly and had already vanished into the distance.
As the battle subsided, the group took stock of their numbers.
Six of Xu Yan's side had died, leaving only nine members in the rogue cultivator group.
On Tushan Jing's side, one Kui Ox had died, but of the four Nine Star Kui Island disciples they had fought, only Murong Yan had escaped; the other three were dead.
The group tidied up the aftermath and divided the spiritual wealth found within the Qiankun Bags.
"Let's go. This place is not safe to linger in!" Xu Yan said immediately.
With that, the group quickly arrived at the site of the Ancient Teleportation Array.
The water flow of Dragon Head Mountain, with its thirteen secondary peaks guarding the main peak, created a complex convergence of heaven and earth energy. A waterfall of spiritual power cascaded from the summit, branching into a hundred streams that stretched in all directions.
They did not waste time, as they did not know when the main force of Nine Star Kui Island would arrive.
The eleven of them each chose a small hill and sat down.
Xu Yan expanded his divine sense, used the imperial edicts to locate the eye of the array, and immediately raised his palms, unleashing a surge of massive Primordial Chaos Mana. The others followed suit, working together to activate the array.
The more people there were, the faster the array could be activated.
Xu Yan observed the surrounding landscape beginning to shift; the scenery grew somewhat blurred. Such a Teleportation Array, evolved from the natural forces of heaven and earth, was truly wondrous.
Half an incense stick of time passed.
Thick, rolling fog surged from all directions, accompanied by the sound of whistling winds.
Xu Yan looked down to see dense array patterns forming where he sat. The surrounding scenery was imperceptibly receding; the heavens changed color, and the yin and yang were inverted.
The next second, the world spun.
The group vanished from the spot, one after another.
Soon after, the place returned to silence.
An incense stick of time later, the sound of rushing flight came from afar. A crowd of at least twenty people arrived.
At the lead was Huangfu Ziyang. He hadn't even changed his tattered Daoist robes; with his hair disheveled and looking utterly wretched, he stared at the peaceful surroundings, his expression turning incredibly ugly.
Then, his peripheral vision caught the location of the Ancient Teleportation Array, where traces of magical energy still lingered.
Huangfu Ziyang immediately flew toward it, and Murong Yan, looking thoughtful, followed closely behind.
"It can still be used for teleportation. Murong Yan, come with me, we must pursue them!" Huangfu Ziyang commanded sharply.
Murong Yan watched him from behind, his expression darkening. He then took a medicinal pill from his Qiankun Bag and said, "Young Master, you should recover your injuries first."
Huangfu Ziyang took a deep breath, snatched the pill from Murong Yan's hand, and swallowed it.
He sat down to refine the pill, but suddenly discovered that while the pill appeared potent, not a single trace of Mystic Qi could be refined from it.
He whipped his head around, only to find Murong Yan attacking with a grim expression, holding a large banner that unleashed magical power, pinning him in place.
In the distance behind them, the dozen or so disciples saw Murong Yan make his move and followed suit, suddenly turning on the disciples beside them.
"Murong Yan, what are you doing!" Huangfu Ziyang's eyes widened as he shouted.
He was severely wounded, his mana was bottoming out, and his mystic robe was destroyed; he was at his most vulnerable. Murong Yan's strike had been successful, and his movements were sharp and his mana vast—it was clear he had not been fighting with his full strength during the earlier battle.
"Rest assured, Young Master, I will help you seek justice," Murong Yan said with a sinister laugh. "Opportunities like this are rare; I must ask you to die first!"
As he spoke, dozens of evil ghosts lunged out from Murong Yan's black banner, shrieking hideously as they tore into Huangfu Ziyang.
On the mountain peak, miserable screams echoed in all directions.
Within ten breaths, Huangfu Ziyang's flesh and blood were devoured entirely, leaving behind only a skeleton.
Still feeling unsatisfied, Murong Yan struck out with his palm, grinding the young master's bones into dust.
He turned around with a blank expression to see that his own men had successfully launched their sneak attacks. The members of the Huangfu Clan had been slaughtered, and the scene was chaotic.
The ghosts from the black banner lunged forward, devouring their flesh and blood until nothing remained.
