In the first-floor lobby of the Miracle Clinic, the elevator doors slid apart.
Wanda stepped out of the car, draped in Lynn's oversized black coat, her bare feet touching the hard floor.
A pure spark of the reality law lingered within her, lending her a languid, icy allure.
Wanda looked at the dozen or so tactical officers in clown costumes hanging upside down from the ceiling, then at the broken glow sticks scattered across the floor. Her expression remained calm.
She walked over to the sofa and sat down. The red light of Chaos Magic danced in her palm, forming a barrier that kept out the smell of blood.
"Aliens here to collect protection money?" Wanda turned to Lynn.
"A bunch of bureaucrats carrying overdue bills." Lynn walked up to the Tactical Team Captain slumped on the floor.
The captain's red clown nose had fallen beside him. Beneath his mask, his face was white as paper, and his chest heaved as he gasped for breath.
Lynn bent down and slipped his hand into the captain's comically oversized pocket.
He pulled out a square metal block shaped like a miniature television.
Pale orange data code flowed across its surface, and its casing had a retro industrial finish.
"A Time Controller."
Lynn held the metal block in his hand and brushed his fingertip across the screen.
"You use this thing to lock onto coordinates and cross different time streams. It's your pass for barging into other people's homes."
The captain swallowed, his Adam's apple bobbing.
He stared at the controller and tried to crane his neck forward to snatch it.
Pietro stepped up and kicked the captain in the shoulder, slamming him back onto the marble floor.
"System." Lynn activated the multiversal management hub deep within the marrow of his right arm.
