Background / History

Yu Xiaogang is introduced at Shrek Academy as a celebrated Soul Master theorist who claims credit for proposing the “Great Core Competitiveness of Soul Masters.” He intervenes when Chen Ping'an allows Zhu Zhuqing to absorb a six-thousand-year Soul Ring, insisting that it exceeds the accepted age limit for a third ring. 16

Chen Ping'an publicly denounces Yu Xiaogang as an arrogant plagiarist who used his past connection with Bibi Dong to obtain Spirit Hall information and appropriated others' research. Humiliated and unable to retaliate against a Titled Douluo, Yu Xiaogang leaves Shrek with Tang San; Xiao Wu later follows them. 16

He returns to Shrek with Flender and seeks to research Zhu Zhuqing's Martial Soul, hoping to use her unusual progress to advance his theories. Chen Ping'an rejects him, and Zhu Zhuqing chooses to leave with Chen Ping'an rather than remain under Yu Xiaogang's instruction. Flender subsequently assigns the remaining Shrek students to Yu Xiaogang. 17

Yu Xiaogang leads the Shrek Seven Devils during their Spirit Arena campaign. His confidence in the team proves misplaced when Tianshui Academy defeats them, earning its hundredth consecutive victory; an enraged noble assaults Yu Xiaogang in the VIP room. 22 24

At the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well, he supports Tang San's decision to take supposedly ownerless Immortal Herbs and consumes the Ninth Grade Purple Ganoderma to break through his cultivation bottleneck. 40

When Chen Ping'an attempts to take Xiao Wu to Tianshui Academy, Yu Xiaogang protests and is targeted by Immortal Slaying. Bibi Dong blocks the attack for him, allowing Liu Erlong, Flender, and the others to escape with him. Chen Ping'an then issues a continent-wide bounty offering a fifty-thousand-year Soul Bone to anyone who castrates Yu Xiaogang. 62

Yu Xiaogang seeks refuge with his father, Yu Yuanzhen, at the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan. Faced with pressure from Soul Douluo and Titled Douluo drawn by the bounty, Yu Yuanzhen refuses to shelter him permanently and orders him to leave. 63

The bounty hunters eventually capture, mutilate, and castrate Yu Xiaogang. The Rakshasa God's Divine Sense finds him afterward, judges his resentment suitable for her inheritance, and takes him away to reconstruct his body and begin the inheritance process. 79 80

After reaching Level 100, Yu Xiaogang massacres Soul Beasts in the North Pole Land to gain strength, seriously injuring the Ice Empress. The Snow Empress defeats him decisively, exposing the gap between his nominal level and his actual combat ability. 83 84

Chen Ping'an later destroys Yu Xiaogang's reconstructed body with a single Soul Power palm. The Rakshasa God preserves his soul, enabling him to survive and eventually complete his inheritance as a First Level God. 85 91 92

As a god, Yu Xiaogang is repeatedly victimized by Tang San after Tang San inherits the Asura God King's position and loses control of his violent divine power. Tang San later forces Yu Xiaogang to investigate a cave containing an extreme dark aura, seals him inside, and leaves him to face the unknown danger alone. 91 92 93

Yu Xiaogang is mentally influenced by the force behind a black door and dragged through a black hole into the sealed land of the Dark Demon Race. There, he and Tang San are held in the same room by the Dark Demon Race. 94 95

Personality

Yu Xiaogang is proud of his reputation as a theorist and reacts angrily when others dismiss either his status or his teachings. His conduct at the Great Spirit Arena and his insistence that Shrek's team could defeat Tianshui reflect his overconfidence and poor judgment. 21 24

He is intensely ambitious about overcoming his weak foundation. The chance to break through Level 30, attain Titled Douluo strength, reach Level 100, and eventually become a god repeatedly drives his decisions. 40 82 83 91
