Background & Resurrection
Horus was once the Emperor's most trusted son. Lorgar arranged for Erebus to deceive him with a Chaos-distorted vision of the future, convincing Horus that the Emperor intended to abandon the Primarchs and become a god alone. Horus accepted Chaos's alliance and began his rebellion against the Imperium. 324
During the final battle of the Heresy, Horus abandoned the power he had borrowed from the Four Chaos Gods after listening to the Emperor. The Emperor then killed him; the Chaos Gods abandoned Horus, and the final remnant of his good soul returned only at the moment of his death. 322
Gamma World later recovered Horus's skull from Is III and used megastructure-linked processors, temporal calculations, and the Emperor's power to reconstruct his body and soul. The resurrection was deliberately limited: Gamma World restored Horus at the instant of his death rather than at his historical peak, fearing the consequences of returning him at full strength. 188 322 324
His reconstructed body, memories, abilities, and soul were modified so that he would fully understand the consequences of his betrayal and pursue atonement. His body was also altered to possess Untouchable-like traits, creating a localized soulless zone that absorbs psychic energy. 325 326
The Emperor's deathly power merged with Horus's body during his restoration, forming a concealed fiery halo and binding Horus's soul to the Emperor's. This link suppresses the Chaos within him, but also places his strength under the Emperor's control. 326
Appearance
Horus is an immense Primarch whose presence overwhelms nearby Space Marines and is described as carrying the majesty of a god. Following his restoration, the visible signs of Chaos enslavement were removed, though his body and armor can still react violently to Warp power. 325 326 327 394
- Wears old Destroyer Power Armor, reinforced with warship-grade force-field shielding. 327 333
- Bears a concealed flaming halo inscribed upon his skull through the Emperor's binding. 326
- Uses Power Claws resembling the Emperor's own claws. 327
- Carries the Emperor's Sword, which channels the Emperor's psychic flames. 326 328
- His armor began mutating again when he absorbed Warp energy near the stargate. 394
Personality
Horus is driven by regret for the Imperium's fate and accepts responsibility for the rebellion that enabled it. Upon recovering his memories, he recognizes that Chaos deceived him and that the Emperor never sought the godhood Horus had once feared. 326
He seeks redemption through action rather than forgiveness. Horus openly admits that he may never be forgiven by either the Emperor or his former sons, but still vows to lead them away from Chaos and bear the consequences of his mistakes. 335
Despite his past, Horus remains a highly charismatic commander. Veterans who fought under him instinctively recognize him as their father and rally to his side, while his presence causes many former Black Legion warriors to turn on their Chaos allies. 327 328 343
Horus regards his soldiers as people rather than expendable tools. He gives his sons the choice to remain behind rather than follow him into the hostile Imperium, though they choose to remain loyal to him. 389 390
Abilities & Skills
Primarch Command and Tactical Ability
Horus was selected for resurrection partly because his command and leadership ability surpasses that of Gamma World's other available assets. He rapidly reads battlefield changes and exploits failures in enemy morale and formation. 322 328
- His presence inspires Black Legion veterans and former Sons of Horus to abandon Chaos and return to his command. 327 343
- He ordered the seizure of Cadivan as the first step toward reclaiming his Legion and lost Imperial territory. 328
- He used Cadivan as a deliberate trap to draw in Chaos factions and expose Vashtorr. 336
- He reclaimed command of the Sons of Horus after Abaddon's defeat and began reorganizing them for a new crusade. 375
Modified Soul and Untouchable Traits
Gamma World altered Horus into an Untouchable-like being whose presence absorbs nearby psychic energy and forms a soulless zone. 325
- Absorbs internal and external Chaos power rather than allowing it to erupt uncontrollably. 326
- Neutralizes psychic attacks before they can reach him, including Abaddon's psychic force. 335
- The Emperor's soul-binding acts as a final safeguard if overwhelming power is forced into him. 326
- Ordinary people exposed to soulless beings for too long can suffer severe soul-loss symptoms. 325
- Chaos retains a “backdoor” in Horus's body, making him easier to target for corruption than other candidates. 327
Emperor-Bound Power
The Emperor's psychic imprint establishes a stable connection between Horus and the Emperor's Sword. 328
- Horus can draw the Emperor's psychic flames into the Emperor's Sword. 328
- The Emperor's Sword helps suppress mutations in Horus's reconstructed body. 326
- His Emperor-bound power permits him to absorb and endure Chaos energy without immediately falling to it. 394
- Horus has not recovered the full strength he possessed before his death and cannot directly challenge the Four Chaos Gods. 326 352
Primarch Combat
Even in his weakened post-resurrection state, Horus is a devastating close-combatant capable of destroying daemons and Daemon Engines with minimal effort. 328
- His Power Claw's disintegration field can reduce materials other than blackstone technology to atoms. 328
- He killed a Chaos daemon, ruptured the weapon of the Daemon Engine Roarer, and pierced the engine with the Emperor's Sword in a single engagement. 328
- His armor, force fields, and regenerative ability prevented Abaddon's poisoned Power Claw from inflicting a decisive wound. 335
- He ultimately defeated and beheaded Abaddon after the latter lost the sustaining power of the Four Gods. 375
