Background / History

Yun Potian founded the sect after establishing a name for himself in the Central Plains and returning to his homeland. Its public inheritance was later reduced in reputation to arts such as Wind's Extremity: Fallen Kill, though the sect possesses a deeper core inheritance tied to the sect master’s token and its protective formation. 50 102

Yun Yang served as the sect’s seventh leader and was renowned as the “Cloud of the Northwest.” Officially, he died when old injuries flared up during a failed attempt to enter the Dou Zong realm; however, records of his achievements were largely erased from the sect’s archives, prompting Yun Yun to question the official account. 85 103 114

Yun Shan succeeded Yun Yang and later entered death-seclusion. During this period, Yun Leng managed the sect on his behalf and accumulated extensive practical authority. Yun Shan eventually broke through to the Dou Zong realm and was contacted by Soul Hall Protectors, who instructed him to investigate the Xiao Family. 17 52

Under Yun Yun’s tenure as sect master, the sect remained a dominant force in the Jia Ma Empire, but Yun Leng and allied elders often disregarded her orders. Yun Yun’s agreement with Yang Chen further widened the divide between her faction and the sect’s inner circle. 15 17 20

Cloud Smoke Sun-Covering Formation

The sect-protecting grand formation gathers mist-like energy from its members and manifests a vast sea of clouds over Cloud Mist Mountain. Yun Leng activated it against Yang Chen after Yun Yun’s attempts to stop the confrontation were ignored. 15

Wind Lord Feilian’s Cultivation Method

It is not established as the Yunlan Sect’s original inheritance, but it becomes important to Yun Yun’s and Nalan Yanran’s cultivation after their isolation from the sect’s inner circle. 20

Conflict with Yang Chen

The Yunlan Sect initially became involved in the dispute over Nalan Yanran’s engagement to Xiao Yan. Its representatives expected the Xiao Family to submit to the sect’s status, while Yun Leng’s instructions pressured Nalan Yanran to secure the annulment or risk losing her position as prospective young sect master. 7 8

Yang Chen later ascended Cloud Mist Mountain during the sect’s monthly examination. After Yun Leng insulted him and attacked first, Yang Chen defeated the Grand Elder in a single exchange, fought Sect Master Yun Yun, and broke the Cloud Smoke Sun-Covering Formation. 11 12 15

Though Yang Chen publicly humiliated the sect, he did not massacre its members or destroy Cloud Mist Mountain. His purpose was to warn the sect against interfering in Xiao Yan and Nalan Yanran’s affairs or targeting his nephew. 13 16 20

“Out of consideration for Miss Yun, I will not pursue today's matter. But if there is a next time, I will personally flatten your Cloud Mist Mountain!” 16

The aftermath damaged the sect’s standing across the Jia Ma Empire. Its disciples blamed Nalan Yanran and Yun Yun for the humiliation, while Yun Leng used the crisis to further consolidate his authority. 17 18 40

Internal Conflict

Yun Yun is formally revered as sect master and possesses Dou Emperor strength, yet Yun Leng controls much of the sect’s practical authority. During Yang Chen’s confrontation with the sect, elders and disciples obeyed Yun Leng’s order to activate the formation instead of Yun Yun’s direct command to stand down. 15 17

After Yang Chen and Yun Yun reached an agreement, Yun Yun was expected to restrain sect members from targeting Xiao Yan and True Lord Hall. In exchange, Yang Chen would guide Nalan Yanran’s cultivation. This arrangement left Yun Yun and Nalan Yanran increasingly isolated within their own sect. 20 22 40

Yun Shan’s return deepened the instability. He questioned Yun Yun about Yang Chen, sought to use her relationship with him to secure an alliance, and assigned Yun Leng to investigate the Xiao Family. 52 53
