"Apply for a post in the Immortal Sect's Starfield Forces?"
Jiang Ding hesitated.
In the Immortal Sect, this was a common arrangement.
The Starry Sky Fortresses of newly ascended Heavenly Lords such as Sun Slayer Heavenly Lord and Sun-Reversing Heavenly Lord had all been built this way. Ownership belonged to the Immortal Sect, while command was assigned to a cultivator. If that cultivator fell, command would be assigned to another Immortal Sect cultivator.
Ordinarily, that arrangement would not change.
Unless an emergency arose—for instance, if the front lines were in peril and Starry Sky Fortresses were being destroyed one after another. Only then would command of the fortresses held by Heavenly Lords in the rear be transferred.
Or turmoil in people's hearts and darker intentions might lead to the same result.
There was no doubt that the Immortal Sect had its share of political struggles.
Jiang Ding had never felt them because, as with the Dao Children of the Immortal Orders, the higher-level cultivators did their best to give him a good environment, one as warm and comfortable as home.
The infighting within the Immortal Orders might be brutal, but it had nothing to do with An Tuzi, Ji Liuyue, Tianji Daoist, or the others.
Unless the matter concerned the fate and survival of the entire order, its Dao Children could sit unshaken on the fishing terrace. No political struggle would touch them.
Of course, political struggles in the Immortal Sect had limits. Under the oversight of the Central Array-Spirit Computer and many venerable, long-established Spirit Transformation cultivators, they were far milder than those of the Immortal Orders. There would be no bloodshed.
Changing command of a Starry Sky Fortress, however, was lawful.
The fortress was Immortal Sect equipment. There was no basis for objection.
Ownership.
Command.
