Background / History

The Earth Sovereign path began when Zhang Jian completed the Earth Sovereign Primordial Spirit in Fire Cloud Grotto-Heaven. The new Primordial Spirit was wreathed in purple-yellow qi and carried an authority suited to ruling the center of the earth. Fuxi recognized that its Dao Qi could govern the entire network of earth and earth-element Dao Qi from the moment of its birth. 523

While pursuing earth-aspected Ancestral Qi, Zhang Jian refined the Earth Sovereign Treasure Wheel and sought to transform his Earth Sovereign Dao Qi into a distinct form of Ancestral Qi. His Dao Qi already possessed the traits of dominion over both Dao Qi networks and law networks. 551 Upon his breakthrough, he proclaimed, “I am the Earth Sovereign,” becoming a rare congenital sacred being tied to the origin of earth and backed by Heavenly Realm destiny. 552

During his journey into the ancient era, Zhang Jian saved living beings amid the disaster caused by Gonggong and Zhurong. Nuwa subsequently invested him as the Earth Sovereign Divine Lord, recognized his path, and granted him authority over the Earth Soul power of the four extremes and eight wildernesses. 623 624 He used this ancient foundation to obtain and merge with the ancient Earth Sovereign Dao Lord status, formally taking the title Earth Sovereign Dao Lord after returning to the present. 629

As a Dao Lord, he established himself as a major earth-aspected power. He refined the Root of Earth’s Immovability at Taiji Divine Mountain, chose to strengthen the Earth Soul Divine Lord rank for an impending conflict, and later transformed his Earth Sovereign Dao Venerable status into a universal status of the Chaos Origin Ocean. 664 687 The Three Sovereigns Heavenly Realm then appointed him Earth Sovereign Emperor and entrusted him with protecting a Human Race branch in the Heavenly Spirit Realm. 687

In the Heavenly Spirit Realm, he killed Huangchao Ancestor, the realm’s Lord of the Earth, absorbed his earth origin, and incorporated the authority of the Lord of Earth and Nine Netherworlds into his universal Dao Venerable rank. This ensured that his authority would not be stripped away when he left that realm. 697 710

After advancing further through the Three Corpses path, the Earth Sovereign God-Emperor fused the Earth Sovereign Seal with the Qilin Seal and rose to the Primordial rank. 844 Zhang Jian later attained sainthood, arriving as the Earth Sovereign Saint to save the Human Race from the Spirit-Void Mother Goddess’s invasion. 889 As the Earth Sovereign Ancestral God, he eventually forced rival Saints to withdraw and secured an era of opportunity for the Earth Sovereign Dao Palace. 908

The Earth Sovereign’s manifestations are marked by purple-yellow or purple-gold divine radiance, dragon-shaped Great Dao runes, and the majesty of earth authority. His saintly form appears standing upon an azure lotus beneath a purple-gold Saint Dao diagram. 523 889

The Earth Sovereign is resolute in his pursuit of the Dao. When Nuwa asks what he seeks through the Diagram of Mountains, Rivers, and the State, he answers without hesitation: “The Dao.” Nuwa recognizes his unwavering Dao heart but warns that the Earth Sovereign path will be arduous. 624

He is cautious in expanding his authority. Although refining Taiji Divine Mountain’s earth root could have strengthened his natal Earth Sovereign rank, he instead empowers the Earth Soul Divine Lord rank because it offers a more immediate advantage against the Zi Yuan Heavenly Emperor. 664 He likewise allows the Supreme Devil Ancestor to escape from the Primordial Land, judging that balance among Saints is necessary. 902

Despite his strategic nature, he consistently protects the Human Race and living beings. He saves countless lives in the ancient era, defends the Earth Sovereign Tribe from the Azure Sun Dao Lord, and later appears at a critical moment to save the Three Sovereigns Heavenly Realm. 623 625 889
