Background

Fang Han began as a stablehand in the Fang Family. Unlike the other stablehands, he refused to eat horse feed and wished to escape his servant status, which left him isolated among the household servants. Fang Yu first intervened when Fang Qingwei ordered Fang Han whipped, stopping the punishment after five lashes. 4 7

After acquiring the Yellow Springs Diagram and the Nine-Aperture Golden Pill, Fang Han's body rapidly became stronger, taller, and cleaner of impurities. When Fang Yu questioned his transformed constitution, Fang Han attributed it to having eaten the gallbladder of a lightning-struck Unicorn Viper. 7

Fang Yu persuaded Fang Zetao and Fang Qingxue to accept Fang Han into the family. Fang Zetao formally adopted him at the ancestral shrine, making Fang Han Fang Yu's adopted brother. The adoption did not end the Fang Family's hostility: many disciples resented his rise from stablehand, and Fang Qingwei continued to regard him with open disdain. 8 9 63 64

Fang Han eventually admitted to Fang Yu that Bai Haichan had given him the Nine-Aperture Golden Pill and the Flood Dragon Subduing Yellow Springs Diagram. He recognized that fleeing or denying the truth was pointless against Fang Yu, but sensed no killing intent from his adopted brother. 91

Personality

Fang Han is proud, disciplined, and unwilling to accept the submissive role expected of a servant. Even before his adoption, he refused to live as the other stablehands did; after gaining status, he used Fang Family rules to punish servants who continued to mistreat him. 7 63

He is cautious around secrets and power. Fang Han suspected that Fang Yu knew of the Nine-Aperture Golden Pill, remained vigilant about revealing Bai Haichan's martial arts, and carefully weighed Fang Yu's intentions after their confrontation over the Yellow Springs Diagram. 9 63 91

Despite this caution, Fang Han is deeply loyal to those who protect and guide him. He repeatedly expresses gratitude toward Fang Yu, trusts him during dangerous journeys, and remains devoted to him even when Yan warns that Fang Han's future path as the Yellow Springs Emperor could conflict with Fang Yu's ambitions. 132 137 143

As his cultivation rises, Fang Han becomes increasingly decisive and ruthless toward enemies. He kills Wan Lianshan in a life-and-death duel, threatens Jiao Fei after defeating him, and proposes using the self-destruction of Eternal Giants to subdue Big Dipper Young Master. 267 269 293
