History

Early Reputation and the Linglong Calamity

Great Unity Sect was already regarded as the oldest and largest of the Ten Great Immortal Dao Sects. Its merit-based system and disciplined administration distinguished it from other Immortal Dao sects. 136

Three thousand years before Fang Yu's conflict with the sect, the disciple Linglong defected and founded Linglong Paradise. This event, known as the Linglong Calamity, remained a source of humiliation and resentment for Great Unity Sect disciples. 180

Conflict with Fang Yu

Great Unity Sect disciples first pursued Fang Yu over the Desperate Island Lord's demonic treasure artifact and the suspected Yellow Springs Diagram. Fang Yu rejected the demands of true disciples Yao Dian, Xia You, and Yu Fen, ordering them to leave. 180

Song Weiyi subsequently confronted Fang Yu with six Great Unity Sect Daoists, demanding the Yellow Springs Diagram and Fang Yu's submission to the sect's Supreme Headmaster. Fang Yu resisted, surviving Song Weiyi's Black Sun Wind Calamity and repelling Fortune-and-Longevity Daoist and Destiny Daoist. 183
