Background / History

The Dias Empire controlled agricultural planets including Miro and Hathe, industrial hubs such as Sende, and its capital planet, Bosken. Its military also maintained mobile star cities, garrison fleets, and a capital-system defense formation publicly called the Impenetrable Fortress. 7 9 15 16

When Lu Shang's Babel Swarm arrived at Miro, the planet's governor rejected infection by swarm spores and relied on the expected arrival of an Imperial fleet. Lu Shang responded by sending a solid planet twice Miro's size into a collision course, destroying Miro. 7

Miro's destruction shattered confidence across Dias territory. Hathe's governor, Soland, chose submission rather than risk the same fate, allowing the Swarm to infect the planet. The arriving Imperial fleet then bombarded Hathe and the nearby Swarm-controlled planet, killing millions of infected Diasians and devastating farmland, but its attacks were deflected by psionics. 8 9

The Empire committed additional fleets to the Hathe system, joining Galactic Alliance forces in an attempt to trap Lu Shang's planets. The trap instead became the Battle of the Bogu Grand Nebula: thirty Alliance interceptor fleets and seven Dias garrison fleets, totaling over one hundred million ships, were wiped out. 9 10

The Swarm subsequently expanded through Dias territory by infecting worlds rather than immediately destroying them. On Sende, it cleared rebel Imperial soldiers who had been looting civilians, completed the planet's infection, and transferred captured warships to the local government as part of its arrangement. 15

At Bosken, the Empire assembled more than one hundred fully staffed fleets as the Impenetrable Fortress. A newly created planetary organism overwhelmed the defense; more than a billion warships were crushed into metal spheres, while the organism began extracting matter from the capital star. The resulting dimming drove the capital planet into an ice age, and its government sought full infection before further negotiations were needed. 16 17

By the time of the wider war's escalation, the Dias Empire had completely fallen. Nevertheless, remnants of its political structure remained involved in Galactic Alliance affairs and later reached an agreement with the Swarm to provide information concerning the Frozen Cycle. 35 49

Society and Government

• Dias worlds were governed by planetary governors and local assemblies or parliaments, while the wider Empire was represented by an Imperial Council. 7 8 46
• The Empire cultivated a strong ideal of imperial “glory,” which Miro's governor invoked when refusing Lu Shang's ultimatum. 7
• During the crisis on Sende, Imperial soldiers used their authority and equipment to rob civilians while anticipating the planet's surrender and infection. 15
• Diasian civilians and officials increasingly preferred infection after witnessing Miro's fate; infection was reported as nonlethal, noncontagious, and beneficial to physical health. 14 30
• Hathe became a special autonomous planet: nominally still Dias territory, but effectively aligned with whichever side appeared likely to win. 42

Military

• Impenetrable Fortress — The capital system's defense formation, comprising more than one hundred fully staffed Imperial fleets. It failed when confronted by a planetary organism with psionic power exceeding recorded Swarm units. 16
• Gravity interdiction ships — Used to prevent the formation of spacetime warp bubbles and deny faster-than-light escape. They could not stop momentum-based psionic attacks and were priority targets during the Bogu Grand Nebula battle. 9
• Conventional fleet armament — Imperial fleets employed solid shells, plasma, missiles, and lasers. Psionic deflection redirected these attacks, including some lasers, back toward Dias vessels. 9
• Capital-system losses — More than a billion warships were crushed into metal balls during the defense of Bosken; only a few fleets fled after recognizing the disparity in strength. 16

Relationships

• Galactic Alliance — Member power and participant in the joint war against the Babel Swarm; Dias representatives repeatedly demanded a stronger Alliance counteroffensive after their territory was overrun. 10 21
• Babel Swarm — Primary enemy and eventual occupying power. The Swarm destroyed Miro, infected Dias worlds, defeated Imperial fleets, and captured the capital planet. 7 9 17
• Lu Shang — Swarm commander who negotiated directly with Dias governors and representatives, manipulated Hathe's leadership through warship trades, and later sought Dias intelligence on the Frozen Cycle. 10 45 49
• Hathe — Former Dias agricultural world that submitted to infection; it retained Dias symbols and nominal affiliation while functioning as a special autonomous planet. 8 42

Story Role / Major Arcs

Miro and Hathe Campaigns

The Empire is introduced as a local Galactic Alliance power whose confidence collapses after Miro's destruction. Hathe submits to Swarm infection, and the Imperial response leads into the Bogu Grand Nebula battle. 7 8 9

Bogu Grand Nebula Defeat

Dias and Alliance fleets attempt to contain Lu Shang's solid planets with gravity interdiction. Their overwhelming numerical force is annihilated by psionic defense and sublight kinetic attacks, prompting the Empire to press the Galactic Alliance for retaliation. 9 10

Occupation of Dias Territory

The Swarm uses infection, negotiated arrangements, and transfers of captured ships to weaken Imperial control over worlds such as Sende. The strategy forces the Empire to choose between tolerating infected populations or spending military strength on purges and reconquest. 15 20

Fall of Bosken

The Empire's strongest defensive concentration is destroyed by a planetary organism. Stellar-matter extraction from Bosken's star triggers a planetary ice age and forces the capital government to request infection, marking a catastrophic collapse of imperial morale. 16 17

Complete Fall and Frozen Cycle Negotiations

The Empire is described as completely fallen during the later Alliance-Swarm war. Its surviving political structure eventually negotiates with Nanali and provides Lu Shang with partial intelligence about the Frozen Cycle. 35 49
