Background / History

The Galactic Alliance was formed by civilizations that had endured the Babel Swarm's genocidal war under the Void God. Combining their cultures and reverse-engineering psionics from swarm corpses, its members achieved rapid technological advances and developed the means to seal the Void God. 1

In the final war against the Void God's forces, the Alliance triggered a supernova that annihilated the Babel Swarm and several other vassal races' main forces. It sealed the Void God within the Frozen Cycle. 1

When Lu Shang's altered Babel Swarm re-emerged, the Alliance dispatched its main fleet to exterminate the hive planet with the Planet-Crushing Colossus. Lu Shang delayed the fleet through negotiations while the planet escaped through faster-than-light travel. 3

The Alliance initially treated the renewed Swarm as technologically inferior, but its forces suffered a catastrophic defeat in the Bogu Grand Nebula. Thirty Alliance interceptor fleets and seven Dias Empire fleets—more than one hundred million ships—were destroyed or captured. 10

Organization and Infrastructure

Faster-than-Light Warfare

The Alliance deploys gravity interdiction ships to prevent enemies from forming spacetime warp bubbles. Its original interdiction vessels proved vulnerable to sublight kinetic strikes, prompting structural improvements to their reactors and defenses. 9 19

Black-Hole-Induced Strikes

Particle accelerators create microscopic black holes by colliding particles accelerated near light speed. These black holes can consume planetary matter, giving the Alliance a weapon capable of destroying Swarm solid planets. 18

Countermeasures Against Psionics

The Alliance identified that the Swarm's Black Curtain is a psionically created, black-hole-like spacetime structure without an initial singularity. Feeding matter into the structure creates a singularity, eventually making it too difficult for Swarm psionics to control. 35

• Nebular matter and kinetic shells were proposed as defenses against induced microscopic black holes. 31
• The Alliance developed nano-industrial technology, enabling rapid construction of fortress ships and other massive projects. 44 45
• The Spear Project is a massive wormhole-based structure intended to bypass planetary organisms' Black Curtain defenses. Even with nanotechnology, it is expected to require decades to complete. 47

Major Campaigns

Extermination Attempt at Nestworld

The Alliance's main fleet moved to destroy the Babel Swarm hive planet using a Planet-Crushing Colossus. It rejected Lu Shang's request for peace talks because its orders required the Swarm's complete extermination, but failed when the hive planet escaped. 3

Battle of the Bogu Grand Nebula

Alliance fleets and Dias Empire forces pursued Lu Shang's solid planets into a deliberate encirclement at Hathe. Their gravity interdiction ships prevented Swarm faster-than-light escape, but psionic deflection rendered most conventional attacks ineffective. 9

Lu Shang's forces destroyed every gravity interdiction ship and accompanying Colossus, then trapped the remaining fleet with psionic gravitational interference. The defeat triggered military tribunals and renewed demands to modernize Alliance weaponry. 9 10 13

Battle of Kao Star

The Alliance deployed particle-accelerator weapons that created microscopic black holes, destroying a Swarm solid planet. The victory boosted Alliance morale and demonstrated that planetary-scale Swarm units could be killed. 18 21

War Machine Cluster Raids

After the Alliance expanded warship production, Lu Shang used the resulting industrial activity to locate Alliance armories. Coordinated Swarm strikes destroyed more than one hundred thousand war machine clusters, forcing the Alliance from an offensive posture into a defensive one. 28

The Alliance's inability to rapidly give its fixed industrial complexes faster-than-light mobility left the clusters vulnerable to these attacks. 29 31

Baron Star Engagement

Both factions sought Baron Star for its immense matter reserves. The Swarm established a one-light-year faster-than-light blockade around the star, but the Alliance repeatedly deployed fleets in growing numbers. 37

The Alliance's remotely controlled ships and hollow-shell decoys allowed it to sustain apparent casualties without losing crews, prompting Lu Shang to order a Swarm withdrawal despite its tactical advantage. 38

Political Crisis

Administrative planets infected with harmless Swarm spores increasingly chose neutrality, as infection spared them from both Swarm attacks and Alliance bombardment while improving public health. 29 30

The Alliance accepted that some administrative planets would be infected in order to buy time for military preparations, regarding them as necessary sacrifices. 30

When the Swarm later used psionic interference to prevent administrative planets from escaping, five Alliance member powers surrendered after Lu Shang threatened to repeatedly destroy their worlds. The Alliance regarded the event as its most humiliating moment since its founding. 46

By this point, the Dias Empire had fallen and more than half of the Banner Coalition's starfields had been ravaged by the Swarm, although Alliance fleet losses remained comparatively limited. 35

• Babel Swarm — Primary adversary; the Alliance was founded by civilizations devastated by the Swarm's earlier war and later resumed full-scale conflict against Lu Shang's mutated Swarm. 1 10
