Background / History

Niu Mancang was a farmer from Niu Family Village. At thirty-one, he had already lost his parents, wife, and two children after Hu the Landlord forcibly took his wife, murdered his parents, and killed both children. Niu Mancang attempted revenge with a woodcutter's blade but was beaten nearly to death by Hu's martial artist guard. His hair turned white overnight from the trauma. 5

After burying his family, he sold his home and farmland to file a complaint in the county seat. Yamen officials swindled away his money and drove him out, leaving him homeless and forcing him into the refugee stream. He sought martial artists willing to help him gain revenge, but none regarded his life as valuable. 5

Seeing Zhang Yu show mercy to a refugee woman and child, Niu Mancang believed he had finally found a martial artist who viewed common people as human. He begged to follow Zhang Yu and was accepted after Zhang Yu identified his unawakened Feral Ox Physique and Pure Loyalty fate pattern. 5 6

Zhang Yu later accepted him as a disciple and selected Iron Shirt as the cultivation method best suited to his physique. Niu Mancang endured brutal stick training, medicinal sand pits, baths, demonic-beast meat, body-tempering ointment, and repeated impacts against iron pillars to become strong enough for vengeance. 6 15 21

After reaching Force Transformation, Niu Mancang returned to Daze Township. He killed Hu the Landlord, Liu Caomei, Hu's child, and the entire Hu household; then killed the constables and county magistrate connected to the earlier injustice. He held a new funeral for his parents before returning to Boundless City. 27 28
