Background

Wen Hua grew up in Boundless City's northern-district shantytown alongside Zhao Dun and Xia Shuang. The three were inseparable from childhood, having each lost their fathers when they went into the mountains to gather herbs. Determined to change their fates, Wen Hua secretly brought Zhao Dun and Xia Shuang outside the Black Tiger Gang's walls to steal martial-arts lessons. 11 12

When Black Tiger Gang underboss Huang Biao caught them, Wen Hua accepted responsibility and tried to shield his friends. He took a blade through the arm without retreating, then killed one gang member with a dagger to buy Zhao Dun and Xia Shuang time to escape. They refused to abandon him, and Zhang Yu intervened before the trio could be executed. 11

Zhang Yu recognized Wen Hua's exceptional cultivation aptitude, comprehension, and fate, then offered him a chance to learn martial arts. Wen Hua immediately knelt and begged to be taught. After the Black Tiger Gang threatened the trio's families, Zhang Yu had them bring their mothers to his residence for paid work and protection. Wen Hua became Zhang Yu's formal disciple, while Zhao Dun and Xia Shuang became registered disciples. 11 12 13

Personality

Wen Hua is fiercely loyal, responsible, and protective. He places the lives of his friends and subordinates ahead of his own, first displaying this by offering himself to Huang Biao in exchange for Zhao Dun and Xia Shuang's safety. 11

He takes Zhang Yu's kindness seriously and regards diligent cultivation and service as obligations rather than privileges. As the disciples' organizer, he rebuked Zhao Dun for slacking off, reminding him that Zhang Yu had rescued them from the slums and provided martial instruction, food, medicine, and safety for their families. 15

His loyalty extends beyond personal relationships. As Black Tiger Gang leader, he treated ordinary members as brothers and personally aided their families, which earned their willingness to fight and die beside him. 64 65 His greatest flaw is allowing gang affairs and time spent drinking with his brothers to distract him from cultivation; the deaths suffered during Iron Bear's attack left him deeply remorseful. 47 67

Rise within the Black Tiger Gang

After Zhang Yu took control of the Black Tiger Gang, he appointed Wen Hua deputy gang leader and left its management to him. Wen Hua consolidated the gang, won the loyalty of its rank and file, and worked to reclaim its medicinal-herb interests. 21 22

When Niu Mancang killed Iron Fist Gang leader Shi Lie, Wen Hua chose to eliminate both the Iron Fist and Green Snake Gangs before their backers could retaliate. The operation seized their accumulated wealth, grain, medicinal herbs, and territory. 22

Defense against Iron Bear

While Zhang Yu and Niu Mancang were absent, Iron Bear led an assault on the Black Tiger Gang headquarters. Wen Hua rejected Yan Dao's proposal to flee, choosing instead to defend the gang and cover the others' retreat if necessary. 63 64

A gang member died shielding Wen Hua from Iron Bear's opening attack. Enraged, Wen Hua continued fighting despite severe injuries and rallied the gang members into coordinated assaults. Their persistence, together with Wen Hua, Li Zhong, and Yan Dao's attacks, forced Iron Bear to retreat. 64 65

Founding of the Heaven-Bearing Sect

After returning, Zhang Yu reprimanded Wen Hua for neglecting cultivation. Wen Hua accepted responsibility for the gang members who died under his leadership and vowed to become strong enough to protect those who relied on him. His fate subsequently evolved and activated. 67

When the Black Tiger Gang was disbanded and the Heaven-Bearing Sect was established, Wen Hua remained a central figure in the organization that had grown from his leadership of the gang. 67
