Background / History

Chen Xin served as one of the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect's two great enshrined elders alongside Bone Douluo Gu Rong. After Ning Fengzhi received intelligence that Yang Jian, a twelve-year-old Soul King of Spirit Hall, was travelling with only Yue Guan, Chen Xin and Gu Rong intercepted the pair to eliminate the threat. 32

He initially offered Yang Jian a place in the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect in exchange for severing ties with Spirit Hall. When Yang Jian refused, Chen Xin engaged him directly while Gu Rong restrained Yue Guan. 32

Although Chen Xin initially underestimated Yang Jian, the youth's abnormal strength, four ten-thousand-year soul rings, and enhancement skills forced him to use his Martial Soul True Body and ninth soul skill. Yang Jian survived the final attack through the Howling Celestial Dog, which tore off Chen Xin's left arm and left him severely wounded. 33 34 35

Yang Jian then exploited Chen Xin and Gu Rong's fear of death by offering one of them a chance to live. When forced to choose, Chen Xin stabbed Gu Rong through the heart with the Seven Kill Sword, killing his companion of decades to save himself. Yang Jian spared Chen Xin, leaving him to live with the consequences. 37 38

Chen Xin later remained at Ning Fengzhi's side despite his injury. He helped support the sect master during the confrontation over Ning Rongrong, whom he had loved as a granddaughter. 116 By this time, he had reached Rank 96, though his severed arm had permanently weakened his combat ability. 116 140 He still joined Yu Yuanzhen and other Upper Three Sects experts in an attempt to capture the Myriad Demon King and Bi Ji. 140 141

After witnessing Yang Jian defeat the assembled Titled Douluo, Chen Xin fled rather than fight. The encounter shattered his Dao heart and left him unable to recover his former resolve. 144 When Yang Jian later came for the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect, Chen Xin had lost the will to resist. Ordered to kill Ning Fengzhi, he reluctantly carried out the act before taking his own life. 172 173

Appearance

Chen Xin is a tall, broad elderly man with completely white hair and beard. His stern face is described as though carved by a blade, matching the severe bearing of the Sword Douluo. 31 114

  • Wields the Seven Kill Sword.
  • Lost his left arm below the elbow to the Howling Celestial Dog; afterward, his empty left sleeve hangs loose. 35 114
  • His aura became noticeably weaker after losing his arm. 140

Personality

Chen Xin is proud, disciplined, and decisive in battle. He regarded Yang Jian as an intolerable future threat to the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect and was prepared to use his full strength to kill a twelve-year-old opponent. 33 34

His pride prevented him from begging Yang Jian for mercy, but his fear of death ultimately outweighed his loyalty to Gu Rong. He killed his longtime companion when given the choice between betrayal and death, an act that left him emotionally hollow. 36 37

Afterward, Chen Xin became increasingly defined by guilt, fear, and broken fighting spirit. He retained concern for Ning Fengzhi and Ning Rongrong, yet could no longer bring himself to oppose Yang Jian. 116 172 173
