Half a month had passed since the sudden incident at the Argent Tournament Grounds. The Ashen Verdict had done everything possible to prevent clashes between the Alliance's Valiance Expedition and the Horde's Warsong Offensive, keeping the two sides apart.
They had originally believed that after eliminating the Azjol-Nerub Empire and the Vrykul of Howling Fjord, these Scourge allies, the Scourge's forces would be diminished.
But everyone had underestimated the Scourge, which had claimed the lives of tens of millions.
The Kingdom of Lordaeron, once the Alliance's strongest kingdom, and the kingdom of Quel'Thalas had suffered devastating blows in succession. Beneath all of Northrend lay the Azjol-Nerub Nerubian Empire, with an unknown number of living beings. There were also the Vrykul, who had slept for over ten thousand years, their numbers equally unknown.
And then there was the Scourge, which left nothing untouched. They had gone so far as to reanimate even the ancient corpses that had lain dormant for over ten thousand years, determined to fight the expedition forces to mutual destruction on Icecrown Glacier.
They certainly could not outlast the Scourge. First came supplies: the Northrend expedition's consumption of supplies was staggering, while Icecrown Glacier offered almost no resupply options, leaving them dependent entirely on transported provisions.
The climate was another major factor. Icecrown Glacier might have been the coldest region in Azeroth. Without sufficient protection, the freezing wind alone could claim one's life. During battles with the Scourge, soldiers would be drenched in sweat or suffer frostbite from touching their armor. These conditions claimed countless lives, and non-combat casualties never stopped occurring.
At the same time, the Scourge's necromancers once again demonstrated their astonishing power. Unless the bones were completely pulverized, these necromancers could revive fallen Scourge troops again and again.
Thus, after deliberation, Highlord Tirion Fordring decided
