Amani and the High Elves

"Kalimdor" meant the Land of Everlasting Starlight, the name the ancient Kaldorei who founded the Kaldorei Empire had given to the ancient continent. The present-day continent of Kalimdor also derived its name from that era.

Azeroth, meanwhile, was the name the descendants of the Titans' creations learned from the Titans after discovering the planet's name. At the time, they did not know Kalimdor existed and believed the continent they inhabited was the entire world, so they named it Azeroth.

They had named it after the planet itself.

That was, of course, incorrect. As civilization and technology developed, they came to understand that Azeroth was not the world's only landmass. They learned that this vast world held many other enormous lands, inhabited by civilizations and races unlike their own.

The descendants of the Titans' creations had called it Azeroth for thousands of years, and the name had gradually become habitual, so they never changed it. Moreover, the prosperity of the three Titan-forged descendant races—especially humanity—shaped the perceptions of races on other continents. Thus, the races living on the eastern continent of the planet gave their own land the name Azeroth, which had been coined by the descendants of the Titans' creations.

That was how the Eastern Kingdoms, the eastern continent across the sea from Kalimdor, came to be known as Azeroth.

At the very northernmost reaches of Azeroth lay what had once been the promised land granted by Dazar, progenitor emperor of the trolls, to the Forest Trolls: the region now widely known as Quel'Thalas. For countless years, the conflict between the High Elves and the Forest Trolls there had never ceased.
