Background / History

Tonatiuh arrived in Azeroth in the body of a Sandblood Tribe desert troll. He used the beginner reward [God and Faith] to create the fictional sun god Tona and moon god Tiu, which were simply divisions of his own name. His golden left eye gathers Faith Power, while his silver right eye releases destructive power. He made the Sandblood Tribe worship these invented Loa to fuel his system abilities. 2

As Sandblood chieftain, he defended the tribe against insect swarms by spending Faith Power to enhance five hundred warriors, his weapon, and his own body. His early battlefield techniques included Heroic Strike and Whirlwind, powered by Rage made tangible through combat. 4

After leading his people into Un'Goro Crater, Tonatiuh developed Zutona into a growing troll settlement. He recruited Bloodpetal elementals and Stone Guardians by promising them evolution and protection, while personally leading campaigns to clear hostile beasts and dinosaur packs from the region. 23

His followers’ faith elevated him from a regional troll ruler into a Divine Being. He later expanded through Tanaris, established the free-trade port of Zutiu, brought Zandalar’s trolls under his influence, and founded the New Zul Empire. 133 160 467

Appearance

Tonatiuh’s body changes continually through evolution and divine growth. He was once under 2.8 meters tall, grew to nearly three meters during Zutona’s early development, and later stood over four meters tall in battle armor. 23 673

  • Has a golden left eye that gathers Faith Power and a silver right eye associated with destruction. 2
  • Was once described as tusk-broken. 23
  • Evolves toward a taller, more human-like form. 163
  • In battle, possesses a heavily muscular, “granite-like” physique. 673
  • Can expend Faith Power to assume a giant golden energy body. 382

Personality

Tonatiuh is practical, ambitious, and highly conscious of power. He understands that the loyalty of his followers is tied to the tangible protection, growth, and miracles he provides; accordingly, he develops both his system-based authority and his personal combat strength. 67

He carries a strong sense of responsibility toward Zutona and its people. Although he wants to travel Azeroth as an adventurer, he repeatedly postpones personal desires to manage the needs of the city and its tens of thousands of residents. 115

His caution increased after realizing that his presence had altered Azeroth’s timeline and weakened the reliability of his foreknowledge. At the same time, an assassination attempt awakened his enjoyment of battle and sharpened his ambition to unite the troll races. 140

Tonatiuh’s imperial vision extends beyond troll supremacy. He seeks a stable, multi-racial empire that can absorb varied beliefs, develop trade, and eventually confront threats beyond Azeroth. 300 350
