Shrek Academy arrival

Ma Hongjun is introduced at Shrek Academy beside Oscar, eating roast chicken while Dai Mubai returns from his defeat against Yun Tian. He is shocked to hear that Yun Tian possesses four purple soul rings. 34

When Yun Tian’s cultivation is formally announced, Ma Hongjun bluntly asks whether Yun Tian began cultivating “in the womb.” He then joins the other Shrek students in Flander’s seven-against-one preliminary match against Yun Tian. 40

Seven-versus-one match

Ma Hongjun attacks Yun Tian alongside the other Shrek students, using Phoenix flames and an aerial dive. Yun Tian suppresses much of his fire with Mountain Collapse and Earth Split and later blocks his strongest combined fireball with an earthen wall. 40 41

The battle leaves Ma Hongjun recognizing that his prized Phoenix flames are not as unstoppable as he had believed. After Yun Tian defeats the group, Ma Hongjun is the first to concede. 41 42

Grand Soul Arena battles

At Soto City’s Grand Soul Arena, Ma Hongjun wins an individual match against a level-thirty fire-element Soul Master, though his victory leaves his uniform burned and hair singed. 44

He participates in the Shrek Seven Monsters’ first team victory against the Crimson Wolf Team, contributing Phoenix Fireline as ranged firepower. 44 He later joins the others in betting their savings on Yun Tian’s cross-rank battle against the Soul King Shi Wei. 46

Regional qualifiers and finals
