Background

Kakashi is the son of Hatake Sakumo, the famed White Fang of Konoha. Sakumo abandoned a mission to save his comrades, only to be condemned by the village—including the people he saved—before his death. Kakashi later tells his father that he understands and is proud of his choice, allowing Sakumo’s soul to find peace. 114

He graduated from the Ninja Academy and became a jōnin at exceptionally young ages. By the time Team 7 returns from the Land of Waves, he serves as Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura’s leader. 10 12

When young, Kakashi was branded with a puppet-technique curse mark by Hiruko. The mark later reactivates, causing scarlet eyes, hallucinations, and temporary loss of control. 56 61

Shao Nan’s Arrival

Kakashi attends Tsunade and Shao Nan’s gathering without a material gift, offering his self-created Chidori instead. Shao Nan gives him the nickname “Fifty-Fifty,” then provokes him into using Chidori at full power. 11 12

Kakashi discovers too late that Shao Nan was not a clone and is distressed after piercing him. He later tries to interfere when Shao Nan attacks Naruto, but is restrained with Wood Release and forced to watch Sasuke’s power awaken. 12 14 15

Hiruko Incident

Troubled by his forehead mark and visions, Kakashi invites Shao Nan for drinks and asks for help killing Hiruko. During the confrontation at Mount Sumeru, Hiruko activates the mark and draws Kakashi toward him against his will. 56 61

Following Hiruko’s defeat, Kakashi gathers the bodies of the fallen Anbu and concludes that Shao Nan’s abilities may be capable of awakening further power within him. 65

Kisame’s Attack on Konoha

After returning from an investigation of Mount Sumeru, Kakashi encounters Kisame outside Utatane Koharu’s home. He recognizes Kisame’s stalling tactics and joins Might Guy and Kurenai in confronting him. 76 80

Reunion with Sakumo
