Background / History

Naruto returns from the Land of Waves mission as part of Team 7 under Kakashi Hatake. He loudly claims responsibility for the mission’s success, while Sasuke dismisses him as an idiot 10.

At the Hyuga–Senju alliance banquet, Naruto asks Shao Nan to teach him ninjutsu. Shao Nan refuses, then restrains Naruto, Sasuke, and Kakashi with Wood Release; Naruto is badly injured during Shao Nan’s attempt to force Sasuke’s ocular powers to awaken 14 15. Shao Nan later brings Naruto to Mount Myoboku and enters the space within Naruto’s seal, where he negotiates with Kurama 17 19.

Kurama agrees to link his chakra with Naruto after Shao Nan promises to revive Kurama’s other half. Naruto draws from Kurama’s chakra sphere and immediately awakens Chakra Mode; he vows to use the new power to protect the village and surpass the Hokage 21.

Despite his bravado, he is fiercely protective of people he considers important. He rushes to defend Konohamaru from Kankuro, shields Sasuke when he senses Hiruzen’s murderous intent, and joins Sasuke against Hiruzen and Danzo 23 79 84. He also forms a more respectful relationship with Kurama after learning the Nine-Tails’ name and receiving its power 21.

Zuo Ying’s Revelation
