Uchiha Fugaku raised an eyebrow slightly, and the worry that had been hanging over him finally eased.
Yan was acting for the good of the clan. He could accept that.
In other words, as long as Yan did not join the Hardline Faction, he could dig into the Uchiha's roots all he wanted.
Uchiha Fugaku might have been somewhat cowardly, but at least he still had a sense of the bigger picture.
"The conflict between the clan and the village is difficult to resolve. The distrust between us runs deep."
Yan smiled, radiating confidence.
"I know. But I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing. At the very least, it can bring us together. In the past, the clan was scattered because of factions and internal strife.
"But I have always believed that as long as we stand united, and as long as we do not do anything the village cannot accept, no one can touch us."
"At most, they'll play a few petty tricks."
"On the contrary, only a strong and united Uchiha can have a voice in the village. The Uchiha's reputation as the foremost ocular jutsu clan did not come from nowhere. We have that strength."
If only everything were as simple as you said.
Fugaku sighed softly.
Ever since becoming clan head, he had tried every possible method, yet the results had been painfully disappointing.
Not only had the Uchiha gained almost nothing, the exclusion they faced had even grown more severe.
This phenomenon had reached its peak after Nine-Tails Night.
Fugaku did not voice the thoughts in his heart, but Yan could guess what he was thinking.
"As long as you do not join the Hardline Faction, lead the clan in a coup, or do anything that harms the interests of the Uchiha or the village, I will not deliberately obstruct you."
"With those words from the clan head, that is enough."
I definitely won't do anything that harms the clan's interests. But as for harming the village's interests... that will depend on the situation.
As long as the Third Hokage and Danzo started stirring up trouble, Yan would not mind causing them some trouble in return and giving them a headache.
Remaining passive all the time would not help the Uchiha rise. It would only encourage those who bullied them to become increasingly brazen.
You gave them an inch, and they would take a mile.
One major event after another left the Uchiha reeling. When they learned that the Sixth Elder had fainted from rage, it became an even more popular topic of conversation.
Unfortunately, they soon lost the mood to watch the spectacle.
The Hardline Faction had deliberately leaked Yan's words and the accusations against An.
This time, the Uchiha exploded.
One after another, they began cursing the Dove Faction and condemning their betrayal. Some hot-tempered people even went directly to the Dove Faction to cause trouble.
While the Sixth Elder was receiving treatment in the hospital, Shisui, who was due to be transferred away tomorrow, bore the brunt of it.
When Shisui learned the news, he was completely dumbfounded.
Even in his dreams, he had never imagined that the direction the Dove Faction had worked so hard toward would be branded with such a terrifying accusation.
Shisui was stunned, and the Third Hokage was not doing much better after hearing the news.
What the hell was this?
I had only just decided that Uchiha Yan was no simple figure and that surveillance needed to be strengthened. Yet the moment I turned around, he had created all this and directly dealt with the Uchiha's Dove Faction.
Could someone tell me how he did it?
And wasn't this accusation a little exaggerated?
It made some sense, but the Dove Faction could not possibly have dug into the clan's roots so viciously. How was Shisui supposed to face his clansmen after this?
After such a maneuver, even if Shisui and the other members of the Dove Faction did not become rats everyone wanted to beat, life in the clan would not be easy for them from now on.
It would likely be difficult for them to earn their clansmen's forgiveness.
With the Dove Faction losing its voice, what use was Shisui, the spy they had worked so hard to cultivate?
Without a voice, he could not attend important clan gatherings and meetings. If he could not attend, how was he supposed to gather intelligence?
Things seemed to have become rather troublesome.
That alone would have been one thing, but Yan had also advocated transferring Shisui out of the Police Department. He believed Shisui should not remain in the Police Department and should instead handle those annoying complaint cases.
What left the Third Hokage speechless was that this was still an internal Uchiha conflict. Even as Hokage, he could not openly intervene. At most, he could only give them an indirect warning.
The problem was that a warning would accomplish nothing.
He could only watch helplessly as Shisui was excluded.
The distinctive sound of a cane tapping against the floor drew closer. The Third Hokage, lost in thought, gathered himself and rubbed the bridge of his nose. He knew his old friend had arrived.
The footsteps stopped outside the Hokage's office, and the door was shoved open with brute force.
Danzo, with his forehead, right eye, right shoulder, and right hand all wrapped in bandages, leaned on a wooden cane as he slowly walked in.
In Konoha, there were only two people who came to the Hokage's office without even knocking, disregarding basic courtesy.
Danzo was one of them. The other was the Third Hokage's disciple, the future Fifth Hokage, Tsunade.
Lowering his hand, the Third Hokage looked up at him.
"Danzo, it's so late. Did you need something?"
"Sarutobi, don't pretend you know nothing. The Uchiha are already on the verge of tearing themselves apart."
Step by step, Danzo walked to the Third Hokage's desk. A vicious gleam appeared in his single eye.
"I told you long ago that we could not be too lenient with those evil Uchiha. We should have taken them all out, especially that evil little brat, Uchiha Yan."
Seeing Danzo grow increasingly excessive, the Third Hokage could not help interrupting him.
"Danzo, I have said this before. The Uchiha are also Konoha's Uchiha. Things have not reached the point you describe. The matters Uchiha Yan has initiated are all changing the Uchiha. This is an internal Uchiha affair, not something you or I should interfere in."
Did the Uchiha truly deserve to die?
Probably not. Aside from wanting to obtain enough Sharingan, Danzo's obsession with the Uchiha was also about seizing on the claim that they were a threat to strengthen himself.
And thereby achieve his own goals.
The Third Hokage had no intention of condemning the entire Uchiha either. Apart from there being no need, he did not dare.
The overall strength of the foremost ocular jutsu clan in the ninja world was right there. If pushed too far, the Uchiha would unite. Even if the village could wipe them out, it would have to pay an exceedingly heavy price.
Do not treat the Uchiha's dozens of jonin and hundreds of ninja as cabbages.
How many jonin did Konoha even have?
The Uchiha alone accounted for more than one-tenth of them.
This was also the source of Yan's confidence. As long as the Uchiha stood united and did not cause trouble, let Danzo and the Third Hokage try laying a finger on them!
If they were not afraid of provoking backlash and starting a civil war, then they could go ahead and destroy the Uchiha.
By then, Konoha would be severely weakened. Villages such as the Hidden Stone Village and Hidden Cloud Village, which possessed formidable military strength and loved launching wars abroad, would not remain idle.
The Land of Fire was a huge piece of fat meat. The moment they found an opportunity, they would pounce and take a vicious bite.
