Background

Tsunade spent a prolonged period outside Konoha, avoiding both creditors and the village's attempts to locate her. Her gambling losses and hemophobia made it difficult for her to work consistently as a healer, despite her unmatched reputation in medical ninjutsu. Jiraiya eventually traced her through casino rumors identifying a female gambler known as a “big fat sheep.” 41 62 68

Uchiha Yan challenged her refusal to return by arguing that the Senju legacy would end with her and that any temporary intervention would be meaningless unless Konoha's treatment of the Uchiha changed permanently. Tsunade ultimately returned with Yan to investigate the situation herself. 65 66 69
